Why did they change the sterilization beliefs?

  I posted this on another thread but it suddenly seemed more important and I wanted to get some opinions!

  I was still a dub when sterilization changed from a consciences matter to a no-no. I remarked to my wife at the time that I thought the reason for this was a declining membership! In the last few halls we went to before I bailed there were NO small children not even ONE! All the young guys got snipped before they got married... (seemed short-sighted to me but who am I to judge) It had to be affecting membership numbers! Since the article came out there are now several babies and toddlers in my old hall (s) I would say at least 10-15 from age 5 down (wasnt that about 6 years ago that the info came out?)

  It's kinda funny there is a few 17-18 year olds (that shifts because SO many of them leave)

  Then a few more 15-16 (they will leave but can't yet as they live at home)

  Then a few less 13-15

  Then a LOT less 11-12

  Then very very few between 5-10

  Then a TON of 1-5

  So Watch for the statistics in the US to go positive again in 2010-2012

  I believe the article on sterilization was about 1999. Don't have my CD available, but I remember it was shortly after I started surfing the Internet. Actually, sterilization has been wrong for a long time. There was an article--maybe late sixties or early seventies, and most witnesses followed the counsel. I don't remember any articles that every said it was OK, it was just that it wasn't talked about, and gradually some of the witnesses began to use sterilization, probably not realizing that it had been condemned years earlier.

  When the article you mentioned came out, I couldn't believe how identical the thinking was to the article (probably 30 years earlier). Even back then I couldn't understand how a woman mutilating a man's genitals during a fight (thus destroying his ability to reproduce) was the same as allowing a voluntary procedure to prevent childbirth and possible economic hardship on the family.

  I predict that if nothing is said for another 25 years that it will become acceptable again.

  Isn't it amazing during the 70s when they weren't really saying anything about sterilization, they were actually then encouraging us not to start families. Who wants to bring kids into "this system of things." Now, when this old system keeps on keeping on, and numbers are dropping (especially harder to gain converts), NOW they realize, well hell, we better populate from the INSIDE. Funny, the Mormons picked up on that one a LONG time ago. How long till the WTS tells you that its your responsibility to have lots of kids, maybe ties it into what a good witness it would bring for some cornball reason.

  It's all lunacy and its all about control and manipulation.

  Yes sterilization (voluntarily done to prevent pregnancy) was downgraded to a conscience matter in the early 90's. However the joke was that they condemned doing it if only for the free expression of sexual activity within the marriage. Like what other reason could there be?? They flipped and retracted the earlier provision using the Old Law covenant as the only basis. They even had to admit that there was nothing in the NT to bear on it but pulled the old "principle" of the law thing.

  Sure, any permanent sterilization is illegal, even if it can be reversed.

  They are heartless, and rather be legalistic -vs- looking at the needs and desires of people. Look at their beliefs on sperm donation and invitro, etc.......

  I just returned from the 2 day assembly. 14 got baptised in the waters of hell.

  Of the 14, nine (under 15yrs) were children of dubs. Two are sons of dubs (34&42yrs) and have their own family now. The rest I am not sure of.

  Basically, almost 100% of "growth" is just dub kids.

  I wonder why they don't want dubs getting clipped.
