Who believed this?.......

  "....for in the resurection neither do men marry nor are women given in marriage, but as are angels in heaven." Matt 22:30

  i know that the interpretation of this scripture was a bone of contention with some JWs. i always believed that Jesus was referring to those resurrected to heaven, because if the WTS could apply the rule that the partaking of the bread and wine was for the anointed only, why couldnt that rule apply to this scripture? i felt the scripture was inconsistent in how it was applied compared to partaking of the bread and wine.

  i also felt this put unnecessary stress on those who were widowed.

  When I first studied, I was definitely told this referred to earthly resurrected ones.

  However, about 2 years ago, an elder told me it only referred to heavenly ones because it compares them to angels.

  I always thought it was a cruel teaching - also because those who died as children, once resurrected, could never marry - just a tad warped!

  yes i agree..... and how comforting it was to be told that those children wouldnt have the urge to get married and that they would always want to be single.

  What "interpretation"? They take the scripture at face value. If there's any discouragement from its message, it comes straight from Jesus.

  It's yet another instance of where the WTS has to devise a scenario that "fits" with Bible teaching.

  The WTS restricts the only Christian hope i.e. heaven, to a limited number of 144,000. Now what to do with evryone else? How will Jesus' teachings impact upon them? Well, the Society has to devise these original teachings, just to get around their own mis-interpretation.

  In reality, the Bible should need no interpretation, but be read "as is". The Dubs are bound to think otherwise.

  That one bothered me, and I never did really beleive it - but I bet that is yet another thing (besides horneyness) that drives dubs to early marrage - got to get some quick, 'cause if you die before the big A you're outa luck.

  At the time of their resurrection, no one is married (therefore compared to angels), for death had dissolved the marriage bonds. Jesus was not here speaking about events subsequent to the condition after the moment of resurrection.

  At least, that is one way that Matthew's and Mark's accounts can be interpreted. Luke is somewhat more problematic, and seems to focus on the heavenly resurrection.

  Maybe those of us who survive Armageddon will just have to get down to business and pump out lots of babies, eh? ROFLMAO

  When did you first study?

  I approached an elder with this scripture and he told me that "The body" is applying it to the annointed only. They applied it to the anointed all the years I was a JW, though they had reservations.

  Also I was told that the survivors in the next system will produce kids until the earth is full. "Who pours water into a glass and doesnt stop pouring when it fills to the brim?" ...thats the reasoning we used. Jah would allow the earth to be filled then he would stop the baby boom....
