    from the New York Times

They were ordered to get on their knees and bow before the portrait of a Hindu preacher. They were told to turn over their Bibles, hymnals and the two brightly colored calendar images of Christ that hung on their wall. Then, Mr. Digal, 45, a Christian since childhood, was forced to watch his Hindu neighbors set the items on fire.

“ ‘Embrace Hinduism, and your house will not be demolished,’ ” Mr. Digal recalled being told on that Wednesday afternoon in September. “ ‘Otherwise, you will be killed, or you will be thrown out of the village.’ ”

India, the world’s most populous democracy and officially a secular nation, is today haunted by a stark assault on one of its fundamental freedoms.

Eyeslice. I didn't know that Hindu's had a propensity for forced conversions like the Mulims. I don't know what Hinduism teaches really, but I thought it was very science oriented and in harmony with nature and wisdom. Is this just an extreme sect or does the religion, behave this way in general?

In some ways it doesn't seem right. The phenomenon of worldwide "do or die" conversion, seems mostly limited to Islam. Could it be perhaps, the Hindus got tired of Islam forcing their religion down their throats, and they have adopted a similar policy for their own cultural preservation, or has Hinduism, reached cult status, like Islam?

It seems Islam took alot of science from the Indian culture as well, and calls it there own to this day.

I have a dear friend who runs an orphanage in India ( Brother Pakash ). He is a devout non-denominational minister. They are constantly terrorized by the Hindu population. He runs many homes in various locations and they deal with threats and attacks every day. When they baptise a convert they have to sneek and do it at night or they will be mobbed. The persecution is at an all time high. Many of the believers he ministers to have been arrested, burned out of their homes, and killed for their faith. I don't know much about the politics of it, but the government only lets him opperate because he keeps some of the children out of the streets.

As I've said over and over... all religion is bad, and leads to this sooner or later...

Good observations and good questions, Tyrone.

I think most religions seem to present a concept of peace on the surface, just like "Jah's Happy People", but it's all a sham. What illusion could be more peaceful than a fat contented Buddha sitting under the bodhi tree?

No religion is what it seems. It's all slavery to concept beneath the surface.

As far as this "harmony of nature and wisdom" it is an illusion of being philisophical and it is presented in a circular manner. Same sort of circular reasoning as WT if you really look into it. The reasoning is designed to "sound" profound, but are rather nonsensical to the intelligent mind. Phrases like "where can you go if you are already there?"

Anyway, the physical violence is a bit of a surprise.

Religion is certainly at the root of a lot of evil. It's a snare and a racket.

Seems they have a short memory. Have they forgotten about Mother Theresa, who worked among the poorest of the poor for years, loving and caring for them?

Why point out the extremism in the Hindu religion? Christians are just as bad. Just as bad as someone who says we are going to get killed at armageddon, and have a smug-self righteous attitude about it.
