WTS Addresses Child Abuse - er, kind of...

My wife, who is intent on re-activating herself as a dub since I DA'd myself, went to the convention this past weekend. She showed me this new publication entitled "Learn From The Great Teacher", and placed great emphasis on these two pages I scanned and am posting. It makes a poor show of telling children what to do when confronted by a child abuser. While there are a few good tips, it's not nearly enough. They are advised to say that they will 'tell on them'(the abuser), but no mention is made of who they should go to, or what protection they will receive. And the illustration of the little girl warding off a sexual predator is ridiculous. It rarely, if ever, is that simple. In my opinion this is a cop out. Maybe they added this little blurb just so they can prove to the courts (during lawsuits), or adherents that they are addressing the issue. But in my opinion, it's far too little, far too late.

Thanks for posting that (scanned pages) iiz2cool.

The first paragraph from the page indicating that Jehovah will protect 'you'...like yeah right!?

Doesn't say WHO to go to. It should emphatically indicate the authorities.....but we know that that does not happen, do we?

Thanks Walter, and the scripture posted would even make me NOT want to pick up a bible ever again. Protect me? Who? Casper?

What irks me is how they still add to the guilt of the kids.

"When they do, boys and girls may start to do bad things that they have learned from these grown ups"

So rather than support these kids, they label them as bad. Lumping them with the adults who abused them.

Can you feel the love?!?! grrrrrrrrrrr

"Jehovah can protect his children or undo anything bad Satan does to them."

    This really ticks me off.

So when has God sent down a lightning bolt (or whatever) and fried a pedophile just in time? It is so wrong to lie to children, especially about something as as serious as this. Why put all the responsibility on saving a child onto God? All that does is set the child up to blame God and vent tremendous anger onto God when he doesn't intervene. It's not a question of if, it's when he doesn't.

And when God doesn't intervene, and the abuse happens again, and again, and again, the child experiences a cold side of God. The anger becomes sadness and is turned inward. Why me? What is wrong with me? The Society said God would help but he didn't so the fault must be with me.

Look at the amount of ancillary damage that is caused by some half-assed, poorly thought throw away line that sounds so easy and simple it can solve a tough problem. But it can't. This simple solution to a difficult problem causes more problems.

Now none of this is about the role of spirituality in recovery from abuse. That is a whole different topic. My problem is when a bunch of lying, hypocritical, *#@$%!!!!!es try to get God to play the role of cop. That's not only asinine, it is spiritually and emotionally criminal.

For what ages is this book targeted?

The very first paragraph is so sick---for children of any age. What is wrong with these people? (I can imagine that whoever was doing the overkill on mentioning the sexual organs was getting off on it.)

    They are worse than ever.

How is this child going feel when God does not save her, or does not "undo" what Satan has done? In a child's mind, God "saving" and "undoing" may likely mean direct divine intervention. When that doesn't happen, then what?

    Sick lying bastards.

    Pardon my English.

I'm not even one of those poor people on this board who was molested and had the thing covered up; think of how they feel about this crap.

The first thing that comes to mind after reading this (after the need to throw up) is the idea that this now the official load of crap that must be fed over and over to all JW children. I imagine that this is what elders will be required to go over with any child who says they were abused. Can you imagine?? How awful!

The book instructs children what to do..to say “Stop that! I am going to tell on you!” But the book does not say that sometimes the child will not be able to do this, either because of being physically controlled or emotionally terrorized. What then? How will the child who did not, could not, yell, “Stop!” feel when the elders go over these pages with them? I’ll tell you how they will feel: GUILTY!!!! And very BAD!

Not to mention the fact that an abused child who reads this has to conclude that what was done to them was done by Satan!

And like others have pointed out, the book says Jehovah can and will protect his children, so what is the child to think when Jehovah does not stop the abuse? That Jehovah doesn’t love them for some reason. (probably because they are BAD.)

It is sick! Sick sick sick. If you think the other Great Teacher book gave nightmares, you aint seen nothing.

I really think this is just a bunch of crap written to show judges and media.

    Sick.
