Below is a letter written by the WT.

    WORLD HEADQUARTERS OF JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES

XXXX November 1, 2001 No. XXXXX

    Branch Committee
    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

    Dear Brothers:

Because of published allegations by opposers that we have secret links with the United Nations, a number of branches have inquired about the matter and we have replied. This circular letter replaces any replies we have given earlier and is sent to all branches. To anyone inquiring within your branch territory you might respond according to what is stated below:

Our purpose for registering with the Department of Public Information as a nongovernmental organization (NGO) in 1991 was to have access to research material available on health, ecological, and social problems at the United Nations library facilities. We had been using the library for many-years prior to 1991, but in that year it became necessary to register as an NGO to have continued access. Registration papers filed with the United Nations that we have on file contain no statements that conflict with our Christian beliefs. Moreover, NGOs are informed by the United Nations that "association of NGOs with the DPI does not constitute their incorporation into the United Nations system, nor does it entitle associated organizations or their staff to any kind of privileges, immunities or special status."

Still, the Criteria for Association of NGOs-at least in their latest version-contain language that we cannot subscribe to. When we realized this, we immediately withdrew our registration. We are grateful that this matter was brought to our attention.

We trust that the above is, helpful in counteracting the attempts of opposers to discredit us.

Please be assured of our warm Christian love and best wishes.
    Your brothers,

    Chairman's Committee

    c: Administration Offices Desks
    Legal Department
    Office of Public Information

note: We had been using the library for many-years prior to 1991, but in that year it became necessary to register as an NGO to have continued access Registration papers filed with the United Nations that we have on file contain no statements that conflict with our Christian beliefs.
"What are the Criteria for NGOs to become associated with DPI?"

  • Have a demonstrated interest in United Nations issues and proven ability to reach large or specialized audiences, such as educators, media representatives, policy makers and the business community;
  • Have the commitment and means to conduct effective information programmes about UN activities by publishing newsletters, bulletins, and pamphlets; organizing conferences, seminars and round tables; and enlisting the cooperation of the media.

Avengers: that was an excellent post.

Not only did you post the WTBTS letter re: UN - but you also included what entails having access to the UN, which means...having some sort of relationship with them.

    Hmm?? (Rayzorblade scratches his head)

Thanks for posting that, it was perfect!

Has the criteria for getting a library pass
    to the United Nations Changed?

Note this email from an anonymous questioner:

The procedure for a library pass is the following: the
interested party needs to fill out an application form
and supply a letter of recommendation in support of
the research. If the needed material is not available
in a UN depository library (the list of depository
    libraries is posted at:
    http://www.un.org/depts/dhl/deplib/countries/), the
application is approved and sent to UN Security. UN
Security checks the application and, if approval is
granted, instructs the Pass Office to issue a library
    pas for the applicant.

The issuance of a library pass is independent of NGO
    status or any other status.
    There has been no change
    in the library pass policy.

NGO representatives with UN grounds pass do not need
to apply for a library pass since the grounds pass
will allow them to use the UN Library.

I have been at this library since 1985 and confirm

that there was no change in 1991.

Caught in a web of lies. I wonder how they will lie their way out of this? They can't. A lier is a lier no matter how many times he tries to convince you it's the Truth. Ha. eat that one

    Good post, avenger.

That letter by the WT Society is so full of holier-than-thou language, very typical of them.

quote: Still, the Criteria for Association of NGOs-at least in their latest version-contain language that we cannot subscribe to. When we realized this, we immediately withdrew our registration. We are grateful that this matter was brought to our attention.

So who in the HELL brought this "to their attention"? Are they thankful to the very opposers that they condemn for helping bring how WRONG all this was to their attention?

They had to turn around and withdraw as an NGO "with their tail between their legs". They got caught in bed with a major political entity that they had long decried as "Satan's substitute for God's Kingdom here on earth". LOL, and shame on them.

    Excerpts:

«"The registry as NGO was made only to be able to give humanitarian help and defend the human rights in several countries of the world", said to [the newspaper] Público Pedro Candeias, spokesman of the Association of Jehovah's Witnesses [AJW] in Portugal. In Portugal, however, the disaffiliation from the registry is not yet officially known by the AJW, which represents nearly 50,000 believers.»

«This [JW] official says the religious group to which he belongs has had "an important role" in the help to populations of countries like Angola, Bosnia, Georgia, Rwanda and other African or Latin-American [countries]. "To reach those countries was complicated and, for that reason, it was necessary to registry" the WTBTS in the United Nations. But that registry, he says, does not compromise the Jehovah's Witnesses with "any political involvement" with the UNO.»

«"It is not a political maneuver", says the AJW spokesman, "because without the support of the UNO it would not be possible to distribute humanitarian help". And as the registry "does not violate the statutory precepts" of the JW, the criticisms to the registry in the DPI "do not have any basis", says Pedro Candeias.»

    [end of newspaper excerpts]

If the criticisms "do not have any basis", and if the registry is so important "to give humanitarian help and defend the human rights in several countries of the world", why has the Watchtower Society hurriedly disaffiliated itself from the United Nations after the case was made known on the Internet?

The JW spokesman lied when he said the registry with the UN does not compromise the Jehovah's Witnesses with any political involvement with the United Nations.

    (end of excerpts)

without the support of the UNO it would not be possible to distribute humanitarian help

In other words, Jehovah God needs the UN.

the registry "does not violate the statutory precepts" of the JW

Organizations eligible for association with DPI are those which:

  • Share the ideals of the UN Charter;
  • If the registry does not violate the statutory precepts of the JW then it means they agree with the UN .

Which is it? Or are they caught in a web of lies?

What a laugh. Actually it's pathetic.

I'm totally with you on this, I have all this info BUT something just struck me when I was reading it then

The society say that they had to register as an NGO in 1991 because the rules had changed, and the UN letter says that the rules have not changed SINCE 1991, so the rules look like they were changed in 1991 since they haven't changed since.

I know that the letter from the UN library says that the procedure hasn't changed since 1985 so this may be a better on to use. (you can find it on Randy's site www.freeminds.org for which we are all so grateful for. Keep it up Randy! )

I know that they have blatently lied and that any involvement was disgusting but after I got all this information together and showed my parents and others they just said that the society must have had a reason. Its so bloody annoying trying to break that wall down.

The PO of my congregation actually said that he couldn't comment on the information I showed him since we don't know why Jehovah had the society get involved with the UN. Putting the blame on Jehovah. Since the society = Jehovah there is no need to question the motives of the society. It is a formidable wall.

1 week and one day ago I had a return-visit from the elders from bethel here in the Netherlands to invite me to their wine and cracker party.

These elders know that I did an inquiry at bethel concerning the UN. They asked me if the answer from Bethel was satisfactory
I told them they know the answer to that question. They then advised me to write them a follow-up letter stating my concerns. (which in fact I might)

(For me personally I don't give a horses petoot about this whole clan. The fact is that a big part of my family still believes it, plus, the fact that they screwed up a big part of my life with their dishonesty, pisses me off!) (sorry I started venting there. these guys just . ok i quit. back to reality.)))))

    I have one question :

We had been using the library for many-years prior to 1991, but in that year it became necessary to register as an NGO to have continued access

The UN says there were no changes in 1991. .

Also says the UN that the Library-Card is not related to the status of NGO or any status.

The Watchtower says they had to register in order to keep using the library.

    What is true?

Excellent thread! To-the-point threads like this, with DOCUMENTS, are vital in my 'work'.

    Thanks! It is much appreciated.

And guess what?? I am off phone restriction from my phone service.

'Hello Watchtower, may I please speak with public affairs on an issue that just doesn't seem to want to go away. Yet, I'm sure it is an issue you WISH would! Yes, I'll wait as long as it takes to set up your audiotape. Take your time. I'm in no hurry. What's that? No one will come to the phone. That is not wise maam. 'We' aren't letting this issue go away, as you all yearn for it to. I'll wait while you relay that message. Thank you'.

Say, what are your projective plans with this "schtuff" Avenger? Care to share?

    Love ya babe!
