Another example of WTS anthropology - The Flood and racial differences

Here is another paradox resulting from the WTS stand on the Flood:

    1. JWs seriously believe in 2370 BC as the date of the Flood

    2. They also believe that by the 1 st century AD racial differences had been well developed (I mean differences in the outward appearance of course, and not their early racist views for instance). This is evident in some of their publications with illustrations showing the baptism of the Ethiopian eunuch who could pass for a black guy by ?modern standards?

    3. They also estimate that the Tower of Babel incident took place around 2180 BC. Between 2370 and 2180 BC mankind must have been racially homogenous, so the different groups of humans could have been separated only after the ToB

    4. Now it?s not really possible that Shem was black, Ham was oriental and Ja´pheth was a blond white boy (or whichever way you want it), because they had the same parents and anyway their offspring must have started ?mixing? at some point.

As a result the WTS ?bible-based? anthropology asserts that:

    A) Only 2200 years are allowed for all the racial differences to develop by the 1 st century AD

    B) Although racial differences had been developing rapidly before the 1 st century, little has changed since the 1 st century until now , although the period of time in question is only 200 years shorter. This process stopped rather miraculously around the 1 st century AD!

    What a pile of horsesh**t!

Or am I getting something wrong?

Pole, you have it completely correct. If a Witness ever sat down and thought about the implications of what they believe, it would all be over.

Many groups (Egyptians, Chinese, Indian, etc) have written histories that predate the time period of the tower of Babel. In fact, the pyramids were built before the date of the flood - that's pretty good work for a nation that didn't even exist yet.

And the Sphinx is believe to be even older than the pyramids. The whole flood mythology has never made sense to me. I like the theory that the flood was a local event that at one time the Black Sea was a much smaller fresh water lake and that as the Mediterranean Ocean rose that all of a sudden the salt water rushed in causing a catastrophe of gigantic proportions. They claim there is evidence of a fresh water beach at the bottom of the Black Sea.

Pole....Racial differences are just the tip of the iceberg. After all, the different "races" (which really do not biologically exist; these are social entities) comprise one single species, the human species. But in explaining how Noah's Ark could fit enough specimens of the entire terrestial animal kingdom to account for the variety of life today, the Society is forced to admit that Noah only had to take animals into his ark "according to their kinds" (Genesis 6:20; 7:14), which they interpret to mean animals representative of the phylum or genus levels of taxonomic classification: e.g., that Noah took onto the ark only one "elephant kind" (tho there are three or four different elephant species), one "tiger kind" (again, representing three or four species), and so forth. That reduces the number of animals from representing 50 million species (that is, at least 100 million animals to board onto an ark a third the size of the Titanic; Noah's Ark would have had a gross tonnage of 13,960 tons versus the Titanic's 46,328 tons) to something more manageable.

But this attempt to fit the entire animal kingdom (aside from marine animals) onto the ark creates another, more grave problem. The Society is forced to believe that the entire genetic diversity of the animal kingdom -- the development of all the millions of species from the fewer kinds -- all took place within a mere few thousand years! This is not creation, since God rested on the seventh day (Genesis 2:2; Hebrews 4:4-11), so the Society must assume that some natural process must have led to the speciation of animals throughout the animal kingdom. So, despite their strenuous efforts to deny evolution, the Society ends up assuming evolution after all! And this is evolution on a scale far beyond that proposed by "evolutionists" -- instead of such changes arising over millions of years, these changes must have arisen after only a few thousand years, or less! The genetic diversity within the human species (roughly categorized socially into "races") is truly a pale reflection of this amazing process of genetic change that the Society is forced to assume occurred after the Flood.

I don't think the Black Sea hypothesis holds much water (pardon the pun). The biblical Flood stories (there are two of them, intertwined together) are derivative of the older Sumerian and Akkadian myths regarding the flood of Ziusudra, aka Utnapishtim and these best reflect the catastrophic flooding of the Euphrates and Tigris rivers that took place between cultural breaks in Mesopotamia, the first occurring around 3400 BC and the second around 2700 BC. The placement of the Flood in the Sumerian King List (in between the 10 antediluvian kings that represent sites inhabited during the Jemdet Nasr and Uruk periods and the latter kings of cities of the Early Dynastic period) strongly suggests that it was one of those floods.

Very good point!!! I was actually hoping someone would draw this conclusion and put it more elegantly than I could. And the final conclusion is worth repeating:

The WTS is either dumb or hypocritical enough to implicitly support hyper-speed evolution, despite the fact that it explicitly denounces the more reasonable versions of this theory!!!

    DUH!

While I could personally accept higher-speed and intermittent burst theories of evolution and speciation; the concept of a truly global flood just floors me. I mean, Peter puts this forward as proof that the end of the world is coming (he does so almost two thousand years ago) since after all, God did it before, yes? Or not... hmm... the Flood is more central to the end-times hysteria than most of us rationalists believe. That is why it is so important to debunk it. After all, every time they want to scare you, they remind you about the time God drowned everybody and all the animals too!

I have read some interesting papers on higher speed evolution; and the earth does have amazing recuperative powers from natural disasters. But the Flood is a bigger demon than most people want to give it credit for. It's the boogeyman that needs to be smacked upside the head with a poker.

Yes, I guess evolutional leaps are conceivable, but you'd not believe thousands of new species could evolve over less than 4000 years, would you?

And even if you believe it, the point is that the WTS has tried to ridicule a more moderate version of evolution. It's like saying you don't believe there's any form of Jewish conspiracy, but at the same time you claim to have evidence of alien conspiracy.

LOL. I see your point. But we'd need a black-caucasian-oriental-indian-semitic-whatever family situation here, right? For instance could you have three sons, each of them of a different race (same parents)?

Darn it! I knew I didn't read the Genesis carefully enough!
