The Borg's fear of demons (Worship Bk, chap 18)

One characteristic of Dubs is a preoccupation and fear of the demons. Their literature contains descriptions of a contest between the creator God and Satan, such as found in their recently publication “Worship the Only True God”.

    According to page 71:

“He gave the apostle John a vision in which Satan was depicted as “a great fiery-colored dragon”. He was poised to devour, if possible, God’s Messianic Kingdom as soon as it was brought to birth in heaven in 1914.”(Rev. 12:3,4,13,17)”

Does it seem reasonable that Satan would have the power to devour God’s Kingdom, such that God had to “snatch it away” into heaven away from the grasping claws of the dragon? Not at all. So was there any time when Satan had the power to “destroy” the Kingdom? Yes, indeed, for the Gospels record that Jesus was led away into the wilderness to be tested by Satan. When Jesus was crucified, this was a defeat for Satan. He’d had his chance but failed.

Interestingly, this seems to be confirmed by the same publication:

“At the same time, Jesus’ death provided the means for delivering obedient mankind and for ‘breaking up the works of the Devil’.(1 John 3:8, Heb. 2:14 ,15)” (page 64)

The statement on page 64 seems to contradict that on page 71, but it does mirror orthodox Christian teaching.

Poor Jesus. He always seems to be fighting for his life against Satan. And if it isn't him, it's his kingdom.

I'm sure that many (most?) book study conductors overseers can recall comments at book studies when discussing Revelation 12:5 that the baby was Jesus, only to have it corrected that it was really the Messianic Kingdom at its birth in 1914. Just imagine: the Kingdom which has a King who has "all authority" has to be snatched away ("caught away") into heaven away from the grasping claws of Satan! Does it make sense? Of course not! The only time when Jesus was vulnerable was at his death. He was resurrected and taken to heaven. The imagery of Revelation portrays an event as 'simple' as that.

Very good point Ozzie (don't you mean Aussie? - or are you an Ozzie Osbourne fan haha). I agree with you on this. It's more evidence that the Kingdom wasn't born in 1914 at all and another lack of insight re prophecy on the part of the WTS.

I don't want to be racist here but it seems to be inherrant in U.S. thinking - home of the borg. The main message being "Be alert, be warned" "Watch out"

Even the name "Watchtower" is like something out of "Look out, somethin's comin' to getcha"

We could come back from a picnic at the beach and here they are at the door with something in a mag about how bad everything is getting, and how we better "Watch out", cause apparently God's gonna get us now too - Big Time!

    whatever, just go away

Demon believers are dumber than a box of rocks.

They quote schtuff like the devil was set to devour the kingdom of god and the whole world is lying in the power of satan and his deeminz....that type of nonsense.

Now they warn us not to have demonic stuff in our homes such as a wind chime (it was invented to ward off evil spirits ya know). Well if satan and/or his pet deeminz are so powerful that they control the world or they could devour the kingdom of god...why are they so powerless that by me removing a windcharm they are immobilized? Or why if I burn the smurf on my desk will the demons be driven away from me? Are they so pathetic that they need to use a smurf to get to me?

You can't have it both ways guys...are they powerful or aren't they? Do they control the world? If so why can't they just send Bush over to stick a nuke up my ass?

    Think people...please god damn it!!!

    Ozzie,

Isn't it amazing what people can be made to believe by using fear?

    Ozzie,

One characteristic of Dubs is a preoccupation and fear of the demons.

Hmmm...I wonder where they got that from? Perhaps because it is in the Bible? All those scriptures where Jesus casts out demons have anything to do with it? Or maybe Paul talking about the "wrestling against" spirits? Methinks the JWs are taking the Bible to it's logical conclusion -- even though that conclusion is illogical itself.
