How to Use This Index (1930-1985)

In view of the many years covered, the material indexed some decades ago should be viewed in the light of Proverbs 4:18: "The path of the righteous ones is like the bright light that is getting lighter and lighter until the day is firmly established."

A lot of the real truth about the WTS I have learned through their own publications. Notice this disclaimer above in the index to the WTS publications.

If you read the older publications, do not be surprised if the elders discourage you or warn you off by saying, "We are so busy as Jehovah's people reading current information, how do you find time to read older publications?"

Many older publications are online here:

Older publications can be purchased at used book sites such as ebay.com and www.alibris.com

I'm surprised that they don't require a publisher to turn in the old publications when they pick up a new one at the literature counter! Then they could get them out of circulation and only folks who think for themselves...apostates?...would have some continuity of teachings.

Maybe they'll bring this up at the International Convention.....

    Blondie,

    I went to Gilead.

I remember Nathan Homer Knorr, telling us not to keep Watchtower and Awake magazines older that eight years.

I was puzzled by his comments.

Now we know the reasons why, don't we.

    Belbab,

If what Nathan Knorr said is accurate, than why bother keeping any Watchtower and Awake magazines? Sheesh! Eight years!!!!!!!! And they have the gall to credit their fickleness to Jehovah's spirit!

Simply amazing. Why are you researching your current religion like we told you to do to your previous religion. Questions are bad!

    What a scam.

Hmmmm. Blondie you give a link to AGS, is he back online??I'll try it....

Yay!! Russells stuff is back online. Heres a little known one from the WT of October 1881. The rapture was touted as possibly occuring in 1881 and after it failed to eventuate there had to be an "invisible fullfillment" : Article "AND THE DOOR WAS SHUT".

...."The seven years which ended October 3d, 1881, were years of favor during the presence, that of the living generation all of readiness of heart might become members of the little flock and enter into the joys of our Lord's presence. If our application of Scripture be correct, the favor has now ended, and in the language of the parable, "the door was shut"; and to those who have never fully consecrated and sacrificed self to God, we cannot any longer hold out the great prize of our high calling, viz.: to be members of the Bride of Christ, joint heirs of Glory, Honor and Immortality".....

The opportunity to be 1 of the 144,000 ended in 1881. "Shut door" theology, the Adventists did it too after a failed prediction.

So the current magazines should have a disclaimer of "Best Before January, 2011".

I guess the progressive light is a perishable product! If you shone that light out into space, it would disintegrate after 8 light years. Some bedrock of truth.

I can remember an announcement made at the KH for us to throw away a certain issue of the Awake. Or any Awake that was before a certain date. My mother looked puzzled because she couldn't understand why they asked us to do this. Everybody asked how to get rid of them and they told us to just throw it away. I was 11 years old at the time... but that really threw me off.

They never fully told us why, just that we were to follow orders. I just remember a black trash bag full of the magazines.

Has anyone ever been told to do this anywhere else? I'm sure there's been other cases. But I'd just like to hear what explanation they were told.
