Generation & "Even when you don't understand/feel uncomfortable with it..."

I had been getting my hope up that this new generation teaching wouldn't make sense and cause my JW friends and family to wake up.I even asked my mom to explain the new generation teaching, but she didn't even know what I meant! Slept through that meetin'? Anyway, I had to tell her the March 15 WT, (which I studied thanks to the comments provided here on this wonderful board!) and asked her to get it.

I am an inactive, and having just returned from her SAD, she is very concerned about me and the earthquakes and Tsunamis. Anyway, using a strategy I read about on this board, I asked my mom if we could do a family study about the new generation teaching, I needed help to understand it. She said we could do that in a couple days. She was delighted for my "renewed spiritual interest" but somehow seemed reluctant about the topic.

How is she supposed to teach something she doens't know?! Ha!

But...I got to thinking...even if she doesn't understand it she will probably still accept it. And when we get to that point in the study where I am confused and can't understand it, she may just tell me I have to accept it, even if I don't understand it. And to pray for holy spirit to understand it.

(I want to say: what if its wrong? Will holy spirit help me understand it if it is inaccurate? or will it help me to understand its wrong? What if I continue to believe its wrong and it doesn't make any sense to me? Is that the answer to my prayer - can non-understanding be an answer?)

So here it is, the horrifying realization that I came to: The "accept it even if you don't understand it, are uncomfortable with it" that the WT has been pushing will be used to deal with her inability to understand it. Rather than an exericse in "studying" and "understanding" it will become an exercise in loyalty to whatever the F&DS says! Aghgh! When does it END!

So let me get this straight.

The overlapping generation teaching makes no sense, so we just need to accept it and pray that the HS will help us understand it.

Yet when someone tells a JW that concerning the Trinity, that's not good enough.

Perhaps you can use that reasoning with your mom.

Thanks for the response, Garfield. Great reasoning...especially good, as she was a child and a Catholic, when her mom was converted. So, that reasoning ought to resound with her. How would you respond to her predictable response of: But this is from the F&DS that is guided by God?

    Great analogy!

I think the scary question is just how far will a JW go to prove their loyalty even when they have to accept things don't understand. I guarantee you most witnesses can't explain that bullsh-- blood fraction policy.

You need to ask her to show you where in the bible it says "even if a belief is wrong and can't be explained you should do it anyway..." I think there is a wealth of scriptures that you can shoot THAT horse-shit down with...

Hey, I resent that remark. I'm not that fat and lazy cat who never actually spoke a word like this fatso was:

    Garfield

How is that different than a Catholic believing what the Pope and the Vatican says simply because they are 'guided by God?'

    Here's a couple: 1 Thessalonians 5:21, 1 John 4:1
