Church sued over public shaming
by Euphemism inthis isn't about the witnesses, but i thought the similarities were really interesting:does a church have the right to publicly reveal a person's private sins?
a dallas court is being asked to decide whether watermark community church can do exactly that to a man and a woman identified in court records as "john doe" and "jane roe.
their attorney says that the pair thought they had revealed their sins to watermark's pastor confidentially and that their behavior should not be made public.

Religion and Sex
by Euphemism in[note: this post is written from a secularist, pro-sexual-freedom viewpoint.
while everyone is of course welcome to post their views in this thread, i am not particularly interested in debating whether or not the traditional christian attitude towards sex is healthy.
i realize this is a very broad topic, and i'm sure it's been discussed here before, but i was just thinking about it this morning after reading a profile of kansas senator (and christian conservative) sam brownback.

The Little Things Rub It In
by Euphemism indo you ever find that you think you've gotten accustomed to the shunning, and then some small, stupid thing comes along to reopen the wound?
that's how i feel right now.
it's been a while since i've really thought about it; the limited contact has simply become routine to me.

The Pharisee Who Wrote About Love
by Euphemism in(i apologize if this has been discussed before; i could not find a previous discussion on a quick search.).
at the park this afternoon, i saw a bench with the following plaque:to our mother, mary dessau, who taught us hope, faith and charity, but most of all love.. .
clearly, this was a reference to 1 cor 13:13. which made me think about 1 corinthians chapter 13. perhaps this is naive of me, but it seems quite out of keeping with paul's overall character.

INDUCE Act Just Introduced into US Senate
by Euphemism insenator orrin hatch has just introduced a bill into the us senate which would criminalize any product or service that "intentionally aids [or] abets" copyright infringement.
the bill is directed against p2p download services, but the language is so broad that it could easily be interpreted to outlaw ipods, cd burners, and even vcrs.
that worst case scenario is unlikely to happen.

Publications from the 60's and 70's
by Euphemism ini know there are a few folks on here who collect wts books, for various reasons.
i have a few books from the 60's and 70's, which i received from a witness friend who knew that (at the time) i would appreciate having them in my library.
since they were a gift, now that i no longer want them, i would like to give them away for free.

WWI vs WWII
by Euphemism inand now, for a topic that has absolutely nothing to do with jehovah's witnesses!
(or with contemporary politics.).
i was listening to regie hamm's album american dreams tonight (which i highly recommend), and i was struck by a line from the song old man.
