Simon,
Anyone left that can post reasonable responces, without fear of being modded out of existance, is you and your relic of a board a favor.

Simon,
I realize that I am stating somethnig that goes against your opinion, and therefore this post will probably be deleted, redacted, or soemthing will be done to my account, but your statements comparing all religious people to schmucks is obtuse and frankly stupid. If you don't want to be religious fine, but don't insult most of the inhabitted world.

ok, so here is my story in put a nutshell: .
1. i first had "nagging doubts" about the borg some three years ago (after 6 years of being a faithful witness).
2. i stopped avoiding "apostate" internet sites some 1.5 years ago, which really helped me confirm my doubts.
Pole,
I severed ties with the JW's officially, and was subsequently DA'd by them, because i didn't want my name connected with them in any way. I have not regretted that. I will never have to worry about any accuontability to being involved with them, neither to myself or to others.

Religions have amazing staying power. That there are still Manicheans in Iraq, Zoroastrianists in Iran, and indiginous shamans in North America is proof of that. I don't know that the Watchtower will ever completely be killed. But it will change, and it will probably diminish, barring some major transformation.
seems china is allowing christian groups to do their thing in the countryside and it's screwing up all the people...funny they don't mention the dubbies at all.
others are making big inroads.
my pasting abilities are not so great so you'll just have to go to their website and check it out...it's worth it...here's an excerpt (if it works)...... http://www.nytimes.com/
The Chinese government will consider any religious (or other form of spiritual) group of people as being a destructive cult, if it feels any form of competition with said group of people. It gives them an excuse to torture Falun Gong practictioners, for instance, or to kill any Tibetan monks who don't want to turn their monestaries into state-owned tourist traps.

Maybe if we all ate elephants they wouldn't be endangered anymore.
If you could raise them economically and find some use for them, yes. I sometimes wonder why someone hasn't tried ranching rhinos so they can sell the horn extract to apothecaries in China where it has a high demand.
Humanity would still be fairly rare if it hadn't found acces to lots of things to eat. Farming and ranching makes certain that animals have what they need to grow and reproduce. The downside (for them) is that they get eaten for their trouble, or at best get their mammary glands sucked dry every morning, or their wool shorn, then eaten or otherwised processed later.
If people don't want to eat elephant, then no it wouldn't go over well. Witness all the farmers that lost money in America trying to raise emus. On the other hand, I have eaten bison meat, and it was really good. There are a few places that raise them. They raise them as part of a study on city land near where I live.
As for that other comment by someone who said that before TV, fruit was rare....
..let me find the right words...
DUDE, WTF?

Yeah man, glad you got out of the Watchtower. Lots of us Raise-In-The-Truths eventually get vomitted up by the fish that ate our parents, but its a stinky ride out of that gullet. Glad you made it through, now have fun.
