The Great '75 Fiasco: Pantsuits
by TMS inbeing the host congregation for the district assembly, we were privileged to hear several talks from the convention administrative staff wetting our appetite for the 1975 convention held at barton coliseum, little rock, arkansas.. one short-statured brother from the southern part of the state kept exhorting the sisters: "now, pay attention!
there's going to be a dramatic announcement at the assembly that will just thrill you sisters!
" as much hype as this was getting, the only speculation that i could conjure up was that sisters might be allowed to speak directly to the audience in the tms.. after the meeting, the vertically-challenged speaker could not restrain himself in conversation with brother p. and myself.

Justice for the Governing Body
by TMS inthe recent "uncovering" of the watchtower's complicity with the united nations calls for prompt phinehas-like action to "keep jehovah's organization clean".
an investigative committee should be formed to determine "who knew and when did they know it?
" a judicial hearing should follow for those governing body members who "signed on" to this impure alliance.. the current governing body of jehovah's witnesses should resign immediately as they are no longer "examples to the flock"(1 pet.

The Retractable Dangling Carrot
by TMS insome scattered thoughts about the granting or denial of privileges of service as a control mechanism:.
this method of persuasion involving reward or punishment is so deeply ingrained in watchtower function, it is second nature.
although sometimes subtle, sometimes blatant, everyone from new bible study to traveling overseer is subconsciously aware of the possible limiting of his official opportunities to serve god and his brothers.. .

I Still Don't Get It
by TMS inposters on several recent threads have waxed eloquent about reforming, reorganizing, reinventing, mainstreaming jehovah's witnesses.. the comparative efficacy of internal or external pressure has been one of the subthemes.. as a former 50 year "true believer", this seems like such an exercize in futility.
if this is really an organization sponsored by the god of the universe, why dare steady the ark.
if not, why bother?.

Is Hatred Really Just "Loving Less"?
by TMS inthe bible says the jacob hated leah, the gal he was tricked into marrying after seven years of hard work at minimum wage.
for many years watchtower publications have tried to take the sting out of jacob's disdain for wife #1 by saying that he really didn't hate leah, just "loved her less".. i think he hated her.. its not that hard to understand.
if a man works seven long years, each night going to sleep with visions of a certain bright-eyed girl and then gets stuck with her dull-eyed plain sister, resentment could build.

The Man With the Big Nose
by TMS inno offense intended for the anointed ones on this board, but ive always compared such professed ones to martin jensen, who professed nothing for himself except that he wasnt good for much.. this iowa corn farmer became a jw in the 40s, was promptly divorced by his wife, and moved to the southern tip of texas, the end of the world.
by default he became the presiding overseer of the english unit, although he never gave a public talk.
there were many unsuccessful attempts over the years to replace him with a more suitable shepherd.
