Parasites
by philo ini have just listened to a radio programme on the bbc about parasites, which it made my flesh crawl.. imagine a parasite that invades an ant, but which does more than feed from its bodily nutrients, it interferes the ants nervous system.
it does this to cripple the ant.
it must infect a bigger animal, a grazing herbivore, and for this, it must disable its host above ground during the warmth of the day.

Embarrassed? You could say that.
by philo ini wanted to put this on the 'most embarrassing moments' thread, but sorry dorky...i couldn't find it.. when i was earnestly 'studying' to be a dub, i went with a friend, who was also my study conductor, for a game of squash.
on the way, by car i suddenly realised i had forgotten my trainers - but much worse, i got a terrible sinking feeling as i recalled where i had left them.
i had left them in the only place in our shared 'batchelor' house, where they could quickly dry out: oh my god, in the oven!

Androgenous names
by philo ini'm only stirring here, and i hardly ever do that - go easy on me.. what do you fellas think about being carried down a ladder from a burning building by a woman called dave (shortened from davina)?
or you girls going on a blind date and finding that 'brian' is a girl who shortened her name from brianni for personal reasons?.
do you like the way most names convey the gender, or is it superfluous?.

Happiness
by philo inthe wtbts is looking to the perfection of the obedient humans in happiness.
but they have also acknowledged the psychological truth that happiness is not a state we can arrive at, but is a process of change, transformation and book selling.. my question is, is the idea of humanity ever being perfectly happy fundamentally flawed?
do we need to be discontent as humans in order to continue human progress, transformation etc and gain temporary happiness along the way?

Help for the faithless!
by philo ini am interested in the usages of 'loyalty' and 'faithfulness' in watchtower writing.
because faithfulness, to a christian, is usually between the individual and his/her god, whereas loyalty is more often used to describe lower allegiances to causes, organisation, leaders etc, as illustrated.... loyal.
faithful adherence to one's promise, oath, word, etc.

Official Christian Qualities
by philo infruits of the watchtower spirit .
love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, mildness, self-control.. love means duty:.
a duty to be expressed on a sliding scale, towards: firstly, the organisation which is de facto god, the brotherhood, one's spouse and children, other family, worldly relatives, ex-jws, and lastly, to apostate 'persons' (not their deeds) in the form of godly hatred.. joy means routine:.
