I thought this book was just okay. I didn't find it hilarious except the part where she ran in and her dad was sitting in front of the television and she screamed, "I know what you did to me!" -- because the girl she pioneered with was constantly talking about having been molested, and she had begun to believe that was what men did, even though her father had never done any such thing.

I'm Perfect, You're Doomed - a review
by Farkel in"i'm perfect, you're doomed" by kyria abrahams, 2009, touchstone.. if you want a way to get people out of that horrible cult, easily, quickly and expeditiously, then here is how to do that.. i can say with a vote of confidence that anyone who reads this book will never and i mean never become a dub.
dubs who read it (assuming they have at least one or two brain cells left) will run from their religion like flies on shit when you pour bleach on it and blow it up with dynamite.. toss away crisis of conscience, apocalypse delayed, 30 years a watchtower slave and all those other very nice books and read this one.
i read those and all the other ones.

Which do you think is the most pernicious teaching of the JW's?
by Chariklo inas i turn things over in my mind, one jw lie stands out.. that god doesn't listen to all prayers.
unless i have it wrong, and i don't think i do, jw's believe, and have been endlessly, ruthlessly taught, that only those living by "jehovah's righteous standards"...that awful glib phrase again...will get their prayers listened to.
in other words, god looks at the number the person is calling from, so to speak, checks who it is, looks him up in his book of misdeeds, and angrily slams the phone down.. the jehovah god of the wt is petty and mean-minded.

I've prayed my entire life but stopped praying altogether after studying with the witnesses. They kept drilling in me what God would or would not listen to, what he likes and hates, blah blah, I just said, "F&^% it."

My wife goes to my cousin's church to see her get baptized.
by garyneal inmy cousin has been messaging us on facebook, asking me if i would come to her church to see her get baptized.
i tend to ignore my cousin because of a bad experience i had with her mom and dad (my aunt and uncle).
i know it is wrong now and i feel bad about it now.

Okay, I don't mean to get off topic, but WHY exactly would his wife be DF'd for just setting foot in a church? I mean, I knew that was the Watchtower rule but, why? Remember, I never was a JW , I just studied. But this rule is crazy to me.

Also, she seems to REALLY hate her mother. Before I came to this site I would have assumed all JW mothers are saints but after being on here, I see their just like other people- some good moms, some bad, but she has mentioned MANY times how awful her mother is.

jwfacts- the reason I know that she is a JW is that she once mentioned her love for Jehovah, something I have never heard by anyone other than a JW (the name Jehovah- I'm a baptist and we always refer to him as God) so I asked her , "Oh are you a JW?" and she said yes and then began to ramble about Paradise earth and how she couldn't wait until she could live on Paradise earth and "swim with dolphins!" she was quiet wound up and wouldn't you know it, the biggest bitch in my office walked up just as she was saying, "I can't wait to swim with dolphins" and the girl says, "Hold up, what are yall talking about?" to which the girl begins to tell her about how wonderful it will be blah blah, and the bitch girl literally fell onto the ground laughing. I felt so bad for my friend because she is so nice. Obviously, I tried to make her feel better and not feel akward but I did feel so bad for her. :(

thanks everyone for the advice. She's so sweet. She seems like a genuinely good, sweet person and I feel so sorry for her because she seems so alone. I will just be a friend but if she ever mentions any doubts , I think that will be the time that I turn her on to this site. :) Thanks

P.S. the reason I said I wonder about her going to a sports bar is because if a fight is on, she will cheer on a certain opponent which I thought was prohibited.

A new girl has begun working in my office. She is a JW and has just moved to my state after leaving Florida (where she's from) and where her entire family lives. I've become relatively chummy with her. She has told me she moved to my state because she hates her mother and they do not get along. After work we've hung out sometimes at a sports bar, which made me think she was disfellowshipped? due to the sports thing, but she says that she goes to the Kingdom Hall twice a week so I guess not. She seems rather miserable (not sure if it's due to the JW thing but I'm assuming) I've caught her crying in the bathroom a few times but I don't want to pry. I haven't mentioned to her that I ever studied with the JW. My question is, should I let her on to this site or leave her alone? She seems very lonely and sad and of course, I don't know that it's due to being a JW, but from what I've heard on this site, I do wonder. Plus, her entire family are JW's and live in Florida and she's moved 500 miles away to a town where she knows no one and has no family so something is amiss. What do you think?
