Any funny stories of when a"brother" giving a talk, said something "funny" or "questionable", and didn't even realize it?
by Dunedain inthere were always all types of speakers in the org.
myself, growing up a "witness", must have heard all types of talks, and given by all manner of speakers, especially on sundays, when almost every week we would get a "visiting" brother giving the public talk.. sometimes, you would have a "great" speaker, all fluent and animated.
other times we would get a comical speaker, one who would maybe purposelly get a few laughs outta the audience.

Samuel Herd 3 min video - the most misogynistic words I ever heard from a "godly man"

Hey, paradise, yes this video SOUNDS bad but.... I'm just playing- this is utter misogyny and it's disgusting. Nonetheless, I'm not sure the average JW woman feels this way, which is a good thing. Upon hearing this they would be taken aback be forced to through some type of Cognitive Dissonance. I know for sure my mother would laugh sarcastically and say "he'd be a good match for me" or something of the sort; but my mother has been known to be sassy.
Btw, Samuel Herd is not the most recent member of the GB. He was selected in 1999. Like three people have been selected after him.

Has the WT ever said it's okay to steak rare?
by neverendingjourney ini'm revisiting an old topic here, but this was a subject of much confusion for me when i was still a witness.
i went to a spanish congregation in the u.s. and it seemed to be taken for granted by most that you needed to cook beef thoroughly to "get rid" of the blood.
i was surprised when i learned that folks in the english speaking hall would order a steak medium-rare and think nothing of it.. it wasn't until after i left the witnesses that it started to occur to me that if the red fluid that was present when you'd cut the beef was blood, cooking it thoroughly wouldn't get rid of it, it'd just cook it and transform it into another color.

Hey, neverending,
I have actually had this discussion several times with my wife, mother, parent in-laws etc. I think it's quite important and exemplary of many of the issues of the Jehovah's Witnesses; it is a matter of straining the gnat and swallowing the camel. When it comes to meat, in order to observe the no-blood policies, animals would have to be slaughtered by incision on the neck and then bled. This, of course does not get rid of all the blood, but it is the first step to getting rid of most of it. Though, in theory JW's would agree that this is the correct manner of slaughtering because it is prescribed in the bible, most will not do anything to ensure that their food was slaughtered in such a way- buying kosher or halal, for example. This, to Jews and some very strict Christians would be a direct violation of eating "kosher" or "abstaining from blood".
On the other hand JW's die from not accepting blood transfusions. This how it is an example of straining the gnat. - Blood transfusions are NOT a form of diversion, they are medical procedures that are usually done in life or death situations; and of course the Jewish law is abrogated under life or death situations. On the other hand, JW's violate abstaining from blood every time they eat meat, according to the Jewish laws- and it is very much the case that JW follow the Mosaic law or the Hebrew precepts as precedents for their "abstain from blood doctrine". The point is they can't be bothered to make sure their meat has been bled, but will die in order to not receive blood in a medical procedure.

The reason that the Qur'an can maintain a more accurate transcription than the Christian canon, I think is reliant on two things:
1) The differing attitudes towards Christian Scripture and the Qur'n by Christians and Muslim respectively. The Qur'an, in the Islamic tradition is the Perfect Word of God in Arabic revealed by the Angel Gabriel to Muhammad, who recited it and is the Holiest of Holies in the ephemeral world. It was learned by reciters of the first generation (within a culture of oral literature/recitation. On the other hand, the bible 66-77(?) different texts compiled throughout 1,550 years. There was no Christian canon until about the 5th century. Different people followed different scriptures, let alone did anyone memorize "it".
2) The Qur'an is written in verse and thus makes its memorization infinitely easier than Christian scripture (bar the Psalms). Thus, with a group of memorizers there can be consensus as to what the text is supposed to say, and rectification to alterations. The Qur'an is meant to be performed rather than read in the Ambrosian style. This is completely different than the Christian texts which were read in isolation such as monks and copied similarly.

Pioneer school in 1000 words
by oppostate inthis strange photo is from a pioneer school graduating class in russia.. they're hiding their faces because, supposedly they don't want to be identified as jw's and run the risk of persecution.. the picture is very telling.
this very well illustrates how the pioneer school aims to make everyone into faceless drones whose minds are copies of wt indoctrinated automatons and not really individuals.. another thing i noticed when looking at the photo is that some aren't following the instructions to obscure their faces--some peek their eyes above the illuminators textbook and one is quite clearly exposing his profile as if he was talking to his neighbor in mid-shutter instant.. third, it's in russia, and the jw's aren't too welcome there.
communist oligarchs were quite acquainted with indoctrination and brain-washing techniques, they didn't like competition.
