well it's that time of year again and the invitations to another pointless memorial aka reject jesus party is now in full swing.
even though it's only the first day i'm already more than sick of it!
this is the first year i am fully mentally awake for the memorial season, and honestly i'm so sick of it all!
Does anyone know the procedure to get added to the JW DO NOT CALL List?
They stopped by yesterday with their invite and no doubt we will get more from my DH family.
I at least want to get registered with the local congo as a do not call.
Amen Jook, I am always amazed at the control this organization has over grown adults who were raised in it.
My husband went to appease his mother. I stayed home with my son and enjoyed my evening.

I have come here off and on over the years. This is actually my third user name, because I always forget my password and user id when I've been away for awhile.
My husband was raised JW, although never baptized and I find it very fascinating that even though he does not attend the KH, he still refuses to come to a "normal" church with me. He also will not celebrate holidays, although he's loosening up a little bit and will help my son buy me birthday gifts, etc.
I studied for a year with the JW's because at first I couldn't find fault with their reasoning. Thankfully I was never sucked in enough to get baptized.
A little over a year ago I found a church that I really love to attend that is quite similar to what I was raised with.
Any way long story short, my MIL is a fanatic JW of the controlling variety. I come here to try to get some insight on the recent goings on in the BORG and understand where my DH is coming from.
Studying with them for a year, I can understand how brainwashed a person raised in the "religion" could be. I really feel sorry for the little boy that my husband once was...
this is a really fascinating topic for me.....mainly because i'm single lol.

I find this to be a fascinating topic as well, being on the other end of the situation. My DH of 6 years did not even mention he was raised in the KH (although never baptized) until 3 months into our relationship. We were at a public pool and I made a crack about JW's and he get's this weird look on his face and says "did you know that was the religion I was raised in?"
Alot of things started to make sense to me after I learned that piece of information. His utter terror at seeing commercials for movies with ghosts or demons, criticism of Christmas, his nerves and how he lets his JW mother thinks she has some control in his life.
Even though he doesn't attend meetings with her, except for the occasional obligatory "Memorial" he still believes everything he learned growing up.
I am curious to know from anyone who has left the religion and is with a non-JW partner:
What did your spouse or partner do if anything that was helpful to making the transition?
It makes me physically ill sometimes to see the mental turmoil my DH has been through his 43 years of life because of his upbringing.
ok so many of you did not mind sitting and wasting time in a car while out in service because it beat banging on doors and trying to convince someone to join a religion that at least i could not fully explain even to myself much less someone else.

Dont' be mad at yourself... you were very young. How sickening that this organization puts trusting young people in harms way both mentally and physically!
My husband grew up in the KH, and his 67 yr. old Mother is a lifelong witness. He is 43 and has never been baptized, does not attend KH.... but insists they have the TRUTH. Be happy you have seen through the BS and gotten out. I feel so bad for my husband when I see the nerve problems he has because of his beliefs..... I have seen mental issues in his family because of this religion. I get so pissed at my MIL for raising him in that religion, but she was brainwashed as a child also, so I hate her mother who was the one who converted to JW when MIL was a small child. How very sad to see families torn apart and misguided by this organization.

although my husband doesn't practice his religion, he believes it is the truth and i hate asking him questions, because he is very defensive of the religion.
he and his mother, many years ago before i knew either of them, were treated for severe depression and hospitalized (at different times as a result of them going through divorces.

Although my husband doesn't practice his religion, he believes it is the truth and I hate asking him questions, because he is very defensive of the religion. He and his mother, many years ago before I knew either of them, were treated for severe depression and hospitalized (at different times as a result of them going through divorces.)
My husband made a comment about the JW family memebers refusing to visit them when they were being treated for mental illness. Does anyone know why that would be? Do they believe mental illness is evil?
