Books that touch us.
by PSacramento innot sure if there was a thread like this before, but.... there are times that certain books touch us in our spirtual lives, sometimes in an emotional way, other times in a theocratical way.. the shack by william young touched me deeply and renewed my faith in jesus and god.. in search of christain freedom and crisis of conscience by raymond franz, made me aware that the issues i laways had with organized religion were not just mine.. question of consceince by charles davis, showed me the the issues that mr.franz faced in the wt were faced by other in the rcc far earlier and made me understand that we must truly server christ and not any man-made organization.. the jesus i never knew by philip yancey, which i read after the shack motivate dme to read the nt with new eyes.. the nrsv of the nt with greek interlinear, one of the best study interlinears i have.. the oxford bible commentary, a must for any student of the bible.. .

Did you ever had someone not speak to you for years because of a grudge?
by asilentone indid you ever had someone not speak to you for years because of a grudge against you?
as the years passed by, did you make up with that person and become friends again?
do you know someone that has that kind of experience?

by gubberningbody inseems to me that you could go to any one of those meetings and find a jw.. oh and weren't there alway those theocratic urban legends about some family somewhere who bought into said ponzi scam and they all quit their jobs and are pioneering now that they've gotten into it?.

I can't imagine doing THAT in my wildest dreams.....
by AK - Jeff inputting on a three piece suit to spend a 90 degree summer day knocking on doors and trespassing!dragging an entire family, including babies and young children to three or four day meetings in an outdoor stadium, living in a seedy motel room for the week.getting home from work and spending the next six hours cramming for a 'theocratic review', getting the entire family ready to go, gulping down dinner, and speeding off to the hall, and then finally getting home around 11 pm, hurrying off to bed so that everyone could get up for work and school in the morning!going to school to explain to the teachers why little johnny can't color pictures of santa, salute the flag of his country, eat birthday cake with all the other 5 year olds, bow his head when prayer is offered, or exchange valentines with all the cute 5 year old girls in class.
and then explaining with grace why he is not immersed in a cult!well, on and on!
these things were typical of my witness life - now i cannot imagine ever doing such silly things, and especially thinking that somehow they would bring pleasure to my god!.

Pseudo Witnesses or changing?????
by REBORNAGAIN ina friend of mine opened his door to a couple of jw's yesterday and they were inviting him to an assembly in tacoma, wa.
now for the real shocker.....they told him the end was coming the next day and he therefore said, "why would you need the money then if the end is coming tomorrow?".
are jw's now claiming concrete dates when the end will come?

Long time reader.....first time poster
by JWinprotest inhello everyone, my wife and i are currently associated with jw's.
my mom converted when i was 3 years old in 1975, my wife was born after her parents converted.
about 4 years ago however, my wife and i have seen many things that have discouraged us enough to start doing some research into the validity of this religion.
