1928 The Messenger PDF
by cabasilas ininformation on how to download the 1928 messenger in pdf will be given at the bottom of this post.. the messenger was the name given by the watchtower society for an occasional watchtower publication that reviewed conventions for bible students/jehovah's witnesses in the 1920s to 1940s.
there were issues published for (not a complete list) 1928, 1931, 1938 and a couple other years.
(perhaps someone else could give a complete list for us?

My friend who is inactive had never set foot in a Kingdom Hall in 20 years. In spite of the fact that his mother wanted him to go to memorial he will never go since he had read a lot about the Society and when he went to college his mother has not asked him on his good associations with the elders of the congregation he went to. He thought the withneses are like family no matter where he went and it was disspiriting when he returned home to find out his mother had never known the names of the JW's whom he associated. To make matters worse he heard from the assembly that JW's can't go to high school reunions. He just left the truth.

A JW attending funerals at a church.
by garyneal inmy mother-in-law attend the funeral of her father-in-law (my wife's grandfather on her father's side) at his church (a baptist church).
before we went in the church, she (mother-in-law) told me that she wanted to warn me that if they get into the singing and praising of god, don't be surprised if i see her not participating.
i said, "because of that whole, interfaith thing, right?

I remember that info because my relatives who are JWs did not go to my cousin's funeral at a church. I wonder why JWs want to invite a person to a Kingdom Hall but ,not except a invitation of a church member to his/her services?

Getting off the subject a bit Cabasilas had you read a correspondence of a Pathe News photographer that was published in Consolation magazine in either 1940 or 1941? He might had filmed Rutherford of either the Detroit or St.Louis assemblies. I saw it back in the mid 1980's while reading pieces from a Consolation colection in a Atlanta Congregation.

Watchtower Vertical Phonograph
by Big Tex ini remember hearing stories about how the witnesses would use phonographs in service (was this in the 1930's or 1940s?
) rather than actually talking to the person, but i had never seen a picture of one until now.
i didn't know the mechanics of how it worked until i read this description:

There are also transciption records of Rutherford's talks. Those are more larger than the regular Rutherford record and used in those sound cars. Has anyone has one of those transcription records?

1942 Consolation on Beth Sarim PDF
by cabasilas inthe may 27, 1942 consolation (the precusor to awake!
) contained a lengthy 16 page article about the failed attempts of the watchtower society to bury judge rutherford at his beloved home in san diego, beth sarim.
it contains a fascinating look into the place beth sarim held for jws during this period.

I went there in 1987 and I could no find it. You are right by saying there are no markers. Yes,the WBBR site is no question either demolished or perserved. When I saw that house I know it was the location.

KurtBethel visits Beth Sarim!
by kurtbethel insunday, may 18th was my big day.
i decided to go to beth sarim, home of the princes and ancient worthies.
so i loaded up the truck and rolled out, wondering what do you do when you meet someone so ancient that the roman empire was a mere twinkling in jehovah's eye.

Had you seen the room or the stairs where Rutherford's body was found in Jan,1942? I read in Wikapedia that a autopsy was made on the body and it had rat bite marks.

alcoholism a clear and present danger for JWs and XJWs?
by quietlyleaving ini was having an interesting discussion with an xjw recently and we both knew of elders who were alcoholic but who were allowed to keep their privileges because their condition was described as a disease.
the elder i knew was also spotted in a drunken state on a couple of occasions.
he kept his privileges.

I remember reading about Sweden where the young JW's have parties after the assembly is over. Is this still true?
