Isn't the old saying it's better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission so appropriate? - I had a moment of weakness and feared losing my life and not being able to sell magazines serve Jehovah so I accepted the blood. What was I thinking? Forgive me! <insert tears>. Problem solved.

JW spokesman: We refuse blood, but it's a personal choice
by MrMonroe indublin news story contains a blatant lie from the mouth of a jw spokesman:.
http://www.thejournal.ie/need-for-discussions-between-hospitals-and-jehovahs-witness-patients-234833-sep2011/.
a court order granted today to allow the coombe hospital give a baby a blood transfusion against the wishes of her parents underscores the need for more discussions to take place between hospital staff and patients, says a dublin branch of jehovahs witnesses.. harry homan, from the south dublin hospital liaison committee said that the issue highlighted the relationship between hospital staff and jehovahs witness patients.. he said, however, that there is already healthy discussions happening across the country.. the parents in this case are very happy with the hospital and the care being give to their baby, homan told thejournal.ie.. there is an excellent relationship between the parents and staff and the child is receiving the best of care.. he added that a blood transfusion will only be given to the premature baby as a last resort.. at the moment, she is doing well, said homan.. rte reports that the transfusion will be given to the baby if her condition deteriorates and it is necessary to save her life.. hospitals are acutely aware of the dangers associated with blood transfusions, claimed homan, adding that it is in everyones best interests to seek alternatives.. he said the position of jehovahs witnesses is perfectly clear on the matter of blood transfusions.. we do refuse transfusions, he said.

the shunning isn't just regulated to DF'd . if you are faded and your actions are not in alignment with the bOrg you can still be shunned to an extent. least that's the case with my JW family. found it interesting that the parts of the article quoted doesn't address faded or DA'd...in that whole light to dark area.

Stressful Session with Uber-Zealous Parents--The Mermaid needs a hug!
by Cadellin inokay, for those of you who don't know, i was raised jw by really great though uber-zealous parents.
i'm now an adult and have been inactive for about two years due a bunch of reasons, the primary one (or at least the one that got the ball rolling) being the pathological intellectual dishonesty of the wt in how it handles secular quotes and citations.
anyway, my parents are aware of all that and have left the issue alone for about the last year.

Not to hijack the thread, but a hardline WT study this weekend explains the call from the JW family on wanting to come to me to "visit". Which they have never done. Sigh. I feel your pain Cadellin, but do like Flipper's advice. Will have to try it my self.

Jamie - yes I was dunked many years ago. I faded not so long after and have generally been invited to memorials/the DCs. Nothing of substance has been done about my non-JW relationships over the years; other family realized they need to ignore my choices if they want a relationship with me. They generally look the other way, don't want to know. Ideally they would want me back in the mindless fold. A relative that is inactive went to a wedding in a church and nothing was done. The GPs did mention to another relative that if I were married in a church they wouldn't be able to attend. So I am not doing so, would like them at my wedding.
I very much doubt they would go to my former congregation elders (if any that I know are still even there) and tell them. I am sure I am just a small memory from years ago at most. Since I am not actively associating with any of JWs or congregation really no point in forming a JC, especially since I will just ignore them. :) The fiance just doesn't get some of the church doctrine, mainly non-celebration of any holidays, birthdays and the whole blood deal (you can have bits and pieces but not all of it at once).

NEW RUMOR: WT ALLOWS BIRTHDAYS
by J.R.R.Watchtower ini've just read at a spanish forum for ex-jw that the wt has cooked a new light article series about social celebrations, including birthdays and aniversaries.
according to a member of this forum 'in short' the wt will let witnesses to decide by 'their bible trained conscience' either they celebrate birthdays or not.
is this rumor based in some real facts or it's just bullshit?.
-

hahahahaha we didn't say you couldn't celebrate your birthday, but the ones in the bible baaaaaad things happened so we should use our bible-based conscience to decide if we should do such things. aka it's up to you but we all know that it's JW speak for NO PARTY FOR YOU! LOL

Sigh. I've posted a few times mostly about personal life with the WT. I haven't been to an indoctrinationsales meeting in years (7+?). guess you could say I'm a third generation JDub, or was...though technically I'm inactive. My grandparents are very into the WT and one of my siblings....another is on the fence depending on their mood that day. None of the rest of the fam is into it any more or they never were part of it. I go visit the GPs on occasion and get the "Jehovah loves you and wants you at the meetings" and "don't you want to survive armageddon to see xyz? I know they will want to see you when they are resurrected". Blah blah blah. I usually do the head nod, uh huh, yeah, uh huh.
Getting married to a non-JW at the end of summer. So the fiance and went to see the GPs. The GPs never really bring up religion if I have a buffer. I knew in the back of my head they would bring it up but just w-a-s-n-t expecting it. Sigh.
The fiance was asked "so what do you think about marrying into a Jehovah's Witness family?" Keeping in mind I never attend anything any more. Gave the we talked about the JW doctrine and such. Kinda tried to change topic. Then I got asked what I thought about marrying into a family that is Catholic. Didn't give much in reply other than it's different. Which of course was followed up with being told how the "world's" morals are so bad like Sodom and Gomorrah, how there was homosexuality there which is against the bible and how they make movies about gays and how it wasn't until recently that sodomy was made legal.
I really wanted to to mention how Lot's daughters raped their father and committed incest with him, but that's ok compared to possibly sodomy and allowing Lot's daughters to be raped by the masses. So stupid. Then of course I have a nephew who is gay, one of the fiance's relatives is gay...there is a gay couple invited to the wedding and a lesbian. Did I mention the minister who is doing the wedding is gay? Oh wait, didn't mention any of that to them. I know they are old and mean well...but really?
The fiance leaves the room eventually. I get grilled asking if I go to sales meetings occasionally. "uh huh". Make sure I go to the memorial and not partake. The district convention was in my city this year and did I go? Actually it was in the city next to the one I live in and wouldn't ya know it I had family in town, couldn't make it.
Be strong.....be strong. Sorry. Just had to vent.

GOVERNING BODY and Child Labor Laws
by revelationsrbeginin7871gs ini have done just a bit of research, but it seems as though, as children we were only supposed to go out in service for 10 hours a month.
regardless of the watchtower being non-profit, or not for profit, children could only represent the organization for 10 hours!!!
does anyone have more information or details on this matter?.

Question for witnesses who were married or intimate during their time in the religion
by kurtbethel ini don't want to get graphic with this and get this thread locked, so please don't go overboard with answers.. i was having a discussion with someone about the jw experience, and was wondering if, since "jehovah" is an important part of the religion, during the moments of intense passion in a relationship, would you yell out, "oh, jehovah!
oh, jehovah!".
seriously, would a witness do that?.
-
wizardca
No it would be "Oh, Governing Body! Governing Body!" - it was there. had to say it.

Holiday field circus: From both sides of the door
by WTWizard inhere is what it is like to those on the inside of the door:.
the children got up about an hour earlier than normal.
obviously, they are anxious to start opening up the presents under the tree (and most children are not going to want to sleep in on christmas morning).

I don't recall ever going out on Christmas or major holidays witlessing. Personally, I think it's tacky to disturb people when they are spending time with their families during holidays. As a kid, my parents/grandparents would give the kids wrapped presants to celebrate their wedding anniversaries. It was usually a big deal, dressing up, the good china out, etc. Elementary/Middle/High School graduations resulted in wrapped gifts as well. We got things from our parents, but not generally wrapped. Being on the other side of the door, was in the middle of making Turkey Day dinner and the door bell rang; thinking it was family opened the door to the Witlesses. I'm sure they loved the cooking aroma wafting out the door. I'm just happy nothing burned while I was away from the stove. :D
