The joke is on us, they actually placed literature. I'll bet whoever phonied up that Kool-aid edition will count their time in creating it and count it as a placement, too. I'm not holding my breath for a return visit though.

"Our dear Watchtower .... our precious magazine..."
by drwtsn32 ini received this vomit-inducing email from a jw:.
i had the tonight show w/ conan o'brien playing in the background, at first i was shocked to hear what i heard, yet very happy to see what was being prominently displayed in public view for the entire world to see (as the show is syndicated internationally)!
yup, the study version of our dear watchtower with the words announcing jehovah's kingdom prominently on the front cover.

There can be no better anthem for X-witnesses.....
by eyeslice infrom the fabulous joni mitchell who sings and looks like an angel.
i am sure for many of us who placed our dreams with the watchtower's empty promises, it is the perfect anthem.. .

From the Wizard of Oz, Lyrics by Yip Harburg and music by Harold Arlen
Optimistic Voices
You're out of the woods
You're out of the darkYou're out of the night
Step into the sun, step into the light
Keep straight ahead
For the most glorious place
On the Face of the Earth
Or the sky
Hold onto your breath
Hold onto your heart
Hold onto your hope
March up to the gate
And bid it open, open, OPEN !Three times for emphasis, right?
This is sung by a chorus as Dorthy and the others make their escape from the field of poppies and actually approach the gate of OZ.
And it even has that thirties feel, some of the cornier kingdumb songs make me think of it.

Did You ACTUALLY Believe That Jehovah Was Going To Answer Your Prayers?
by minimus ini know many people, witnesses and nonjws that truly believe that if they prayed to god, he would hear their entreaty and perform some miracle and grant their wishes.. did you believe in the power of prayer?.

I have to say that jesus was definetely a liar when he said " anything you ask in my name it will be given to you".
I saw that in a NON-JW study of David this morning. I went back to the source and saw that He was talking to a select group only, the core apostles. He didn't extend that to all of us, did He?
Prayer helps me focus, helps me determine my motivations. It reminds me that there is a higher power in my life. It also helps me get outside my natural selfishness if I am praying for specific others and their situations. Do I get answers? Maybe, lately I've been asking for discernment so I might know that very thing.

Hee, hee, they said dangling!
Paul Simon
The Dangling Conversation
Its a still life water color,
Of a now late afternoon,
As the sun shines through the curtained lace
And shadows wash the room.
And we sit and drink our coffee
Couched in our indifference,
Like shells upon the shore
You can hear the ocean roar
In the dangling conversation
And the superficial sighs,
Are the borders of our lives.
And you read your emily dickinson,
And I my robert frost,
And we note our place with bookmarkers
That measure what weve lost.
Like a poem poorly written
We are verses out of rhythm,
Couplets out of rhyme,
In syncopated time
Lost in the dangling conversation
And the superficial sighs,
Are the borders of our lives.
Yes, we speak of things that matter,
With words that must be said,
Can analysis be worthwhile?
Is the theater really dead?
And how the room is softly faded
And I only kiss your shadow,
I cannot feel your hand,
Youre a stranger now unto me
Lost in the dangling conversation.
And the superficial sighs,
In the borders of our lives. -

Did this web-site help you leave the organization?
by ecuador injust curious, what percentage of people here actually left the jw org because of this site or similar sites?
do these sites really help people to get out?

It kept me from getting in. Does that count? I was put off by the memorial, but I was still a study and making good progress. Visiting here, reading the Best Of threads and following discussions made me realize that the JW truth is not the truth I am looking for.

Live Nation says doors open at 6:00, music starts at 7:00. I got there by Googling Santana, looking at the gig for the date and clicking in a bit. Enjoy the show!!!

Thanks to Simon for creating the space and caring for its inhabitants. And thanks to you all for letting me be a part of a community. I've been reading daily and commenting much less often, but you have all helped to expand my view and clarify my convictions. And Ninja? I think I'll miss you most of all. (In my best Kansas accent, of course.)

New book for BS?
by Uncertain ini took my old books to my small group at church for show and tell last week.
the bookmark fell out of climax and i saw that this is the last week for that study.
what book are they using next?

Thanks, Ynot. I don't promise to study every day but it will be interesting to see.
Wobble, I wondered about Follow the Christ as well. I think it's their fallback if pushed to display true Christianity. In other words, they don't really want to go there. I didn't even go over that one with the group. They get the idea of "never reading a bible verse" so as to not be mislead by taking stuff out of context. They were amazed at the FDS, and astounded to see me out of my usual jeans and tshirt and in full Dub regailia instead. Except I refused to wear heels. And I didn't knock...
There were requests for the Reasoning book as well. I said check second hand stores and yard sales. I'm not sure the 1989 copy that I have is still available at a Hall, ther's lots of old light in it.

I took my old books to my Small Group at church for show and tell last week. The bookmark fell out of Climax and I saw that this is the last week for that study. What book are they using next? And will it be the last one or will a book actually be studied twenty minutes at a time come January?
BTW, I also took them a copy of my first posts on here and the one showing how I made my decision not to be Dub-dunked. Someone there asked if they could use my comments as a basis to start a talk with JWs they may meet. They were impressed with how much help is available here and at how much help is needed to leave the cult. Planting seeds ...

What is up with the obesity doctrine?
by kzjw ini'm a ubm, and the wife went to the assembly.
she didn't discuss the obesity issue with me, but my mother-in-law is obese.
so i'm just wondering how that would make her feel?
-
Uncertain
Medically, obesity is defined as more than 20% over recommended body weight. Also can be more accurately figured by body mass index (bmi). Many calculators can be found with a quick search. Figure body height in shoes -- women get to figure with one inch heels.
I told my study conductor that I was considering weight loss surgery. She said someone in the congregation had it, that there was no scriptual reason not to have it if medically necessary.
I attended a book study with several folks much larger than I was, potlucks were popular (oops, gatherings with a dish to pass) and large servings were compliments to the cooks. I never heard the word gluttony there.
