How did the "Truth" set YOU free ?
by JH inthe bible says that the truth will liberate you or set you free.. the watchtower applies this to their religion as if their "truth" sets people free.. if that's the case, how were you set free when you became a jw?.

The problem is Mad that while those truths are wonderful, the fact is the the Witnesses did not come up with any of them.

Differnt ways of serving God
by JH inthe jw's think that they are the only ones serving god.. lets prove them wrong, and show how many other ways there are of serving god that they don't do..

Thank you rooster, you just mentioned one of the reasons in which I left. Helping the poor in the Bible is a required commandment from God but I have never seen a Witness do this. (tell me how many of you who were witnesses ever remember an elder getting up on the podium and saying "Brother's, it is time for our poverty assistance meeting...")

Although I am new to this website, I will give you my two cents worth.
I was one of JW's for the last thiry five years (I was born around it. If you only count my baptism it would be since 1991) and to tell you the truth, I NEVER felt like I had fit into it as there were so many times that I was simply ignored. Because my mother was not in good standing, all of my family was shunned. Because of this, I felt that most of them came to the conclusion I was unworthy of associating with. I did not make any friends until I was 28 years of age and have never married because of this. When I finally did make friends in the orgnanization I discovered that they were not only like the world, they were PART OF THE WORLD.
Being alone all those years has given me the ability to go on alone so I guess the answer to your question is no I don't miss it since I never had it to begin with.

Independent Thinking
by Jeffro ini decided to do a search of the watchtower library cd on the phrase 'independent thinking'.
only three times is it ever spoken of as being a good thing.
and those three instances are quite telling about the insidiousness of all of the other times that jw publications consider independent thinking to be such a bad thing.. .

These are some of the reasons that I do not like religion (although I still believe the Bible)
Anyone who tells a person not to think for themselves and let that anyone do all the thinking is almost certainly going to take advantage of a person. There is no room to question. The funny thing is that the WTS has no problem telling people to question thier religion but when it comes to them, the picture changes completely.
That is why I like to study the Bible alone. No one is there to tell me if it is right. I can come to that conclusion myself.

Ridiculous teenager counselled at Assembly.
by Duncan inthe ridiculous teenager is me.
this story takes me back to 1969, when i was 15 years old.
we were attending the international assembly at wembley stadium, near london, the only time, i think, that wembley was ever used for an assembly.. if youve ever read any of the stories i posted on jwd over the years, youll know that i was never one of those kids growing up in the truth who always had doubts about it or was unhappy and miserable with the religion, just waiting for the chance to get out.

I had a situation like this at a kingdom hall that I was attending where I was told that I should be underlining my answers in the Watchtower. Although I cannot recall exactly, I believe when I did start to underline some one mentioned that it was in pen but I should have used a yellow highlight. I remember well that there is another group that would nitpick like this.
The Bible calls them the Pharisees.

Science vs. Religion - Must We Choose Between Them?
by bavman ini dare to say science and religion are two different animals.
they may try to explain similar things but in different ways.
i don't believe man will ever live without either religion or science nor would i want us too.

I have studied quite a bit about science and to be honest, it is not written in stone as people think it is. Take for example evolution which is considered a 'fact' by most biologists. The truth of the matter is that many are now comming to the conclusion that creation has greater weight than evolution. www.discovery.org/articleFiles/PDFs/100ScientistsAd.pdf shows that many scientist are not convinced that it was the 'fact' it was a century ago. Like all things in science, it is based on speculation ( Hypothesis ) and repeating an expriement to come to a conclusion. This of course is flawed thinking as no one on earth has all of the knowledge to say that these observations were valid ten million years ago (know anyone that was alive then?)
The truth is that scientist are willing to take things on faith (greek pistis) just like theologists. To show this point, when Dawkins was asked why he believed evolution despite the evidence agaisnt it, he explained more or less 'I can't see the processes but all the evidence points to it' or words to that effect. The same is true for theologist the difference is many scientists are too arrogant to admit it.

baptism.....again
by claudia inhi, i dont know how to tell my family that i dont wish to be baptized yet, i want to be baptized to serve jehovah, but i am unsure about being baptized as one of jehovahs witness.
why cant i just be baptized like it says in the bible?
what can i tell my family?
-
Wafe
The baptism that the society gives is not based Biblically (I should know I was baptized this way). All I can say is that if one is not baptized in the Name of the Father, Son, and holy spirit, it is more than likely not valid (one of the reasons I am looking to get rebaptized).
The questions that they use to ask were much more approprate but now...I don't think that they are.

What Religion Are You?
by choosing life ini know a lot of posters are not religious and others feel no need to attend a church.
but, for those that do attend somewhere, i was curious as to what type of church they chose after leaving the jws and what attracted them to that particular church or religion?
if you were not raised as a jw, did you return to the church you were raised in?

Currently I consider myself a christian and that is it. I feel the same way about religion after my situation with being a JW. Mind you I still love God but I don't think I could ever love religion again.
