New Invitations for the "Deliverance at Hand" DC
by dorayakii in.
the front of this new watchtower-sized invitation features a common painting of the jw paradise and the theme of his years distirct convention, "deliverance at hand" emblazened across the front.
it looks like they're trying to work up armageddon fervour again.. .

by dorayakii insaturday march 4, 2006. the guardian .
the following correction was printed in the guardian's corrections and clarifications column, saturday march 11 2006. .
our assertion that margaret mcnamee, the mother of twins conceived from frozen eggs last year, had had her unfertilised eggs frozen for religious reasons was misinformed in the article below.

Historical Linguistics
by dorayakii ini just thought it would be interesting to give a bit of background on philology (the study of ancient linguistic texts) historico-linguistics (the study of the history and development of languages) and etymology (the history of individual words).
by analysing different languages, linguists were able to work out that many languages had a common root.
for instance, it was obvious that english, dutch, german, danish and swedish for example, are from a common root, because certain words closely resemble each other.. english drink.

Was Adam's "fall" part of God's plan?
by dorayakii inthe watchtower society and many other fundamentalist christian faiths believe that god is omnipotent, omniscient and omnibenevolent.
in other words he is almighty /all-powerful, all-knowing and all-good.
his omnibenelovence though, clashes with his omnipotence in that if he is powerful enough to change the human condition, and he is willing to do it, why does he permit suffering?...

Why the British and Japanese drive on the left...
by dorayakii init is a common misconception that driving on the left-hand side of the road is the "wrong" way.
a comment by a poster on another thread reminded me of something i've read.james_woods: the jaguar xke...and driving it on the wrong side of the road (http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/106004/1.ashx ).
this is a melange of several articles and my own comments, that explain the reasons for the difference in driving customs... .

Diet and lifestyle change
by dorayakii ini've recently made a diet and lifestyle change as part of a new years resolution of sorts.
i'm just going to give myself some incentive to stick with it by listing it here for all on jwd to see.
the reason why i've started this is that, although i'm not fat, i noticed that in the last couple of years i've lost my bottom abs.

"Special Talk" being given next week about blood
by dorayakii ini just got back from the meeting minutes ago.
we had an announcement at the kh this evening that there will be a special talk next service meeting entitled "obeissons au commandement divin de nous abstenir du sang"... which means "let us obey the divin commandment to abstain from blood"
i asked the presiding overseer why the blood talk was being given so early, and not in line with the kingdom ministry schedule.

How did the Jews manage a 365.25-day year with their 360-day calender?
by dorayakii inthere are actually about 365.25 (or 365 1/4) days in each year.
with the gregorian calender that most of the "western" world now uses, we add a day to february every 4 years to ensure that the seasons are always in synch with the months.
we call this the "leap-day" and it is added to the "leap-year".
