Suicide.... how do you view people who "attempt" it?
by outbutnotdown inanybody who has read my other recent posts...... don't worry, this is absolutely not about me feeling that way... i'm very happy, thanks..... .
my roommate, however, had a friend who committed suicide a couple of weeks ago and she just broke up with her boyfriend and he was saying things similar to what the guy who committed suicide awhile back was saying just before he took his life.
it is freaking her out.

What has changed since I left/got kicked out in '92?
by outbutnotdown ini have long ago come to the conclusion that the jw religion is a negative influence on society for many reasons.
their "love" is so conditional that it doesn't count as love..... their prophecies are contradicted by many different, more accurate dates from which their chronolgy is based (587 b.c.e rather than 607 b.c.e., for example).... and i could go on, but most here have developped an understanding of why the witnesses do not have "the truth", so enough said about why we are where we are.. but what has changed in the last 12 years, since i left?
i felt that the about-face on the 1995 generation change of thought brought a lot of people out, and thankfully so.

Why I will never be a Christian.....
by outbutnotdown ini have read a lot of books about spirituality, religion and self-awareness.
the one major problem i have with christianity (and despite the fact that people may suggest that i am just turned off by being raised as a jw.... i think that my point would be valid without having experienced that negative start to life).. the one common premise of christianity is that we are sinners at birth and that we need salvation, otherwise we are disrespecting god.
i have also read other books that use the premise at the exact opposite end of the spectrum...... namely that we are perfect at birth and that we, through choice, use prejudisms and negative thought patterns that end up making this "sinner" theory more believable.. i'm not suggesting that either of these theories is absolutley correct, but i choose to lean more towards the "perfect at birth" theory.

My ex-wife/ex-mother-in-law hired a thug to "hurt" me
by outbutnotdown ini was out at the local pub on monday night and a big guy came up to me and wanted to "talk" to me.
as i went to see what he wanted, i made eye contact with the bouncer so that he knew that i wasn't completely cofortable with the situation.
the guy started off by saying that my ex-wife has been complaining that i have been harrassing her and that it's getting bad enough that she has to move out of town.

Woohoo... I had a great day in family court yesterday!!!
by outbutnotdown inmy ex-wife and i were to start our custody/equalization trial yesterday but due to time constrictions we had a settlement conference instead and it is over!!!!!
woohoo!!!!.
financially, i will end up having to pay $5,000.00 more than what i should.. (only because my ex lied about a few things) but i get joint custody of the kids now.

Are we too hard on INDIVIDUAL JW's?
by outbutnotdown ini am definitely no longer a jw (11 years).
that having been said, living in a "democratic" land, the one thing that is challenging is agreeing with freedom of religion, but also protesting when it becomes offensive.
don't get me wrong..... my family shuns me completely and i do think that it is "offensive", and against the laws of nature, which makes the point even more legitimate...... : do they really know what they are doing?

1975 - Love it or hate it?
by outbutnotdown ini find it quite interesting that, due to minimus' thread about "the end", there were a lot of comments about 1975. everybody who made comments about it here didn't seem very bothered by the fact that they had such high hopes for the year and were let down by yet another false jw prediction.
yet the borg chastises and condemns as being arrogant those same people who may have drifted away because of it.
to me, that says a lot about how, even subconsciously, great it must be to be out of that high control organization.

Should I renounce my baptism to the JW organization?
by outbutnotdown ini got baptized in 1986, when i was 17. i got df'd in 1992, when i was 22.
(april birthday.. df'd early in 1992.... .
i don't want to sound like i am complaining about this next part because i actually have a very happy life right now with very few exceptions/concerns.

"As soon as they are saying 'Peace and Security', sudden destruction.......
by outbutnotdown ini was having a moment today when i was trying to compare how loving the jw's god (and father) is compared to me, also a father.. i'm not sure how much they still preach the "peace and security" cry and that sudden destruction is to be upon the world immediately after that.....????......
but when i was a child i thought that was the meanest and also cowardly thing that god could do.
comparing it to me as a father.... .

Green Bible....... Follow up
by outbutnotdown inwhen i originally brought up the topic about the 1961 green bible i wanted to write more about it but my computer went screwy and submitted only what i had typed in up to that point.. the one really whacked thing in the old green bible was, imo, what someone mentioned about genesis in the last topic.
i don't have one anymore..... (the society, i believe, is trying to hide their stupidity and systematically tried to get rid of them) but i do remember plain as day that, in that green bible, genesis' time period that it covered was 46,026 b.c.e to 1657 b.c.e.
(the ones after that just said: "in the beginning to 1657 b.c.e.
