I can't help but think of our own personal struggles for freedom today.

BTW the Father of the Constitution and Bill of Rights, James Madison, also was very adamant about keeping Church and State separate, so at least two colonists (and many more) were leery of religious leaders trying to "unduly influence" their followers. Have you read James Madison's Memorial and Remonstrance against Religious Assessments to protest passing a bill to fund religious leaders through taxation?
History has many lessons for those willing to do some research. Too bad many people would rather watch reality TV.

By the way, the JWs I grew up with always watched the 4th of July fireworks. You would've thought it would have been a no-no because of it being a patriotic holiday, but no.
They make the rules and break the rules.
Yeah gaining independence is good but then we went on to rob the native Indian's of their land and put them on reservations so, so much for freedom blah blah blah. What good is economic freedom/taxation without proper representation from a master power when we use it to enslave our fellow man whom we consider inferior like we did during slavery of the black man, and slaughter of the Indians gathering in desperation at Wounded Knee/ghost dance.
I always remember it is a "national" holiday and there for an agenda to keep the lemming proudly marching off to war for freedom no less.
