You should just be able to enter the URL and it will be converted to a proper hyperlink:

    http://observer.co.uk/osm/story/0,6903,727737,00.html

That's if you are using IE and the HTML WYSIWYG editor which does the conversion for you.

If you are using the text-only box then there are two options:

    • Enter the URL and have the system create the link - I think this is what you have done but the system has stopped at the first comma (I won't even try and explain why!)
    • Enter the link yourself as proper HTML

If you want to do the second option then the 'HTML formatting' option needs to be checked and you would enter something like:

    <A href=" http://observer.co.uk/osm/story/0,6903,727737,00.html">Link to my news story</A>

which would appear in the browser as:

    Link to my news story

This was probably no use whatsoever eh?!

Seems it's choking when it gets to the comma ... I'll look into this !

OK, the problem is that the ',' character should be encoded so the URL's above are not strictly allowed although IE and other browsers make them work.

see http://www.blooberry.com/indexdot/html/topics/urlencoding.htm which explains it but also has a handy converter at the bottom of the page. The URL then becomes:

    http://observer.co.uk/osm/story/0%2C6903%2C727737%2C00.html

... which I'm hoping will work when I post it !

out of interest ... you should notice that the URL shown in the status bar of your browser when you mouseover the link shows the URL as "we" see it (with the commas)

    Thank you Simon,

I saved that page with the index converter to my favorites so I can try that next time I am in a jam.

Hopefully this will solve my problems for awhile.
