Psychological Effects Of Believing Jehovah Is A God Of LOVE As Taught By The Governing Body

Consider the type of Deity the Governing Body worship, and whole heartedly endorse:

    Jehovah

Jehovah is the type of deity that requires "exclusive devotion" and gets extremely jealous of other gods, even if they are just made of wood overlaid with gold or idols. He also promises to bring an end to the world and only a few JWs are gonna make it alive through the wholesale slaughter, and at the same time this is to be done LOVINGLY for the good of mankind(that worship exclusively him) because if he didn't it's assumed the human race just wipe itself out in the future because they don't follow jehovah and this world(all the governments) are under Satan's control.

Now it don't take a rocket scientist to understand that jeaslously, and insistance on exclusive devotion are not compatable with love, hey even 2000 years ago Paul said that Love is not jealous, doesn't keep account of injury(thus not seeking revenge), is kind, doesn't seek ones own interest etc etc...Yet the Governing Body is blind sided from these facts due to a heavy bias leaning in favor of a jealously vengeful agitated Deity who they boastfully claim can do no wrong, no matter what he does even killing babies, women and children any action of this Deity is met with mental acceptance, and defended vigorously as having been done out of love.

What's the Psychopathology that developes from such twisted distortions in reasoning as promoted by the Watchtower corporation?

The word psychopathology has different meanings. One of them is the study of mental disorder, mental distress, and abnormal/maladaptive behavior. In this context the term is most commonly used within psychiatry where pathology refers to disease processes. Abnormal psychology is a similar term used more frequently in the non-medical field of psychology. Another very general use of the term is to refer to mental symtoms

Yes Jehovah is a mean vindictive murder... Who will as he likes to put it as "righteous indignation" on those who can not defend themselves. The opposite of love. So yes it is impossible for me to look to him for any comfort or shelter as he is the one we seem to need protection from.

I have always had a hard time with this. Even now, the rare times my grandma (the only one in my family that will even attempt to speak to me) and I talk, she reminds me of how I need to be taking my kids to that Kingdom Hall otherwise I'm only letting Jehovah destroy them. EVERY time my response is, "But the first scripture you taught me was 1 John 4:8 - God is love. So if God is love, he wouldn't just destroy my family because I didn't bring them to a building. Then she is kind of quiet and says something about destroying the wicked and those who have turned their backs, yadda yadda. Makes PERFECT sense. ha!

I had 2 abusive parents, one jw, one not-jw. When I tried to tell people about the abuse, I was told "they're your parents, parents would not do that" making me distrust myself, my feelings, that something was wrong with me.

I finally saw what was happening and started healing but it opened my eyes to the abuse at the KH and how similar it was and that the solution was the same thing, leaving that group of abusive people.

I suspect the thougt of Jehover as deadly, vindictive God, God makes sense to many people who are abused. Healthy people would not flock to this concept. Hey, I recall school prayer on a field trip after the Supreme Court decision. Our junior high science teacher taught us, "God is great, God is good and we thank him for our food." It was designed to cover many religions. What happened to love and salvation?

In a sane world, people would flee.

Sometimes, I ask myself,is Jehovah really a god of love when he allowed his son to die a painful death? Parents are supposed to be loving and protective of their offspring. We see this trait also in animals and birds.

The Cognitive Dissonance needed to believe in the Jehovah of the WT/JW theology is Psychologically damaging. I struggled with it all my life until I discovered this Jehovah of the Watchtower was a total fiction.

I am thankful that he is, as Richard Dawkins put it :

"The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust , unforgiving control freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully."

Can you start a thread that doesn't have the words 'Governing Body' in it?

    Yadda,

Yes, but they are after all the faithful and discreet CEOs and what gets printed is what they want printed so I point my finger at them.

    frankiespeakin,

You are becoming a specialist at dealing with the Governing body. I think, its very important everyone become a specialist in certain Watchtower branch of teaching and structure.
