Does anyone else have parents who were only JWs until you became an adult?

    My parents joined when I was born and left when I became an adult. They're very controlling people. I recommend the book 'If You Had Controlling Parents' because I think people raised as JWs will relate to it. Although, every single person's story in the book ended when they went away to college. That freedom never comes for JW children. They're never expected to start their own lives and make their own choices. Anyway, it seems to me some people only join the organization so they can have a socially acceptable reason to be extraordinarily controlling with their children.

    Sadly no but I have seen a few peope become JWs when they have young children and I think there can be a couple of things at work:

    1. Becoming a parent can change your outlook on things;
    2. JWism can offer a handy framework of control for a parent who doesn't know quite how to exercise their authority autonomously.
