Just watched thise documentary about Jose Mestre, a man from Lisbon, "my mother is a JW", who has grown to middle age with a slowly worsening facial tumour. The story follows him as he makes his decision to go ahead with surgery. He finally chooses a series of small operations that surgeons promise will be bloodless. I can't find any info re whether he is still alive; I hope so though, he was a funny guy; in the show he has the sense of humour of somebody who has lived through extreme adversity.
He seems to live with his sister, who apparently isn't a JW. He meets a man in London whose JW mum is no longer a JW because she permitted him to have blood during surgery for the same condition. Jose seems to shut down in that meeting, like a JW would who has just realised he is with an ex-JW of some kind.
