We were out doing some field work when I mentioned that I had never heard of "Friends" having to dress up just to visit other "Friends" who were probably still wearing their robe.

I suggested that it would make me feel uncomfortable and that I might even feel somewhat intimidated.

"Ha Ha Amos, that's the idea! They listen better that way!"

The coat and tie is a corporate intimidating tool. If they come to your home and catch you in your robe, then you feel under if not UN-dressed. It gives the aura of a sense of power and tugs at one's inferiority complex if they have one.

I quit wearing a tie to meetings back in the 90's. first so they wouldn't call on me to pray, then just to go with my evil beard.

They are not really friends. If you don't believe me, then just try discussing the reasons why the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger is wrong. Or try sharing bad experiences caused by following the advice in the Young People Ask--Answers That Do Not Work books. You will see how quickly the "friendship" evaporates.
