It came to me while i`m watching AFL today ( ozzie football ), back in the 60`s / 70`s during the football season many bro`s elders and ms plus the r&f would have transistor radios glued to their ears listening to the commentary of the main game with one ear and the other taking in the scheduled program. of the district assembly .Was this just an ozzie experince ? or did it happen in europe (soccer ) & USA (baseball / gridiron ) I know I did sneak out to a pub to watch the grand final one year then came back for the final program a little guilty. ( silly me )

My oldest brother worked in the sound booth at the circuit assembly, back in '96, the year the Packers won the Super Bowl. He said that most of the brothers in there had transistors, and headsets, so they could catch the score of the game while the session was going on. This was after the rank and file were counselled during the morning session about going out to their cars during intermission to listen to the game. Yeah, we all listened to that counsel.
One district convention in Green Bay, my dad took me and my brothers to the Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame during intermission. We missed half of the afternoon session.

I did it back in the early's 90's when the Dallas Cowboys had a great team. The best games always came on Sunday early afternoon and we had the 1 pm meeting.

I think sports is better than religion, fewer people die over sports than religon.
But they both can be dangerous.
