    Enduring The Dark Season
    11/29/92

The sky painted with watercolour brush strokes
Even now at mid-day, in pastel pink and grays

Skeletal trees loom on the far hill
    Shrouded in fairytale mists
Standing sentinel to the impending assault
That is coming in the form of winter

I turn my collar to the cold
Cursing that I had not worn a warmer cover

Standing, watching passersby this end of November
The “joy” of Christmas yet to reach their hearts
Four months to go until spring, only four months
To endure the cold, the withdrawn introversion of
    This dark season

Turning to go, still in awe at the stark beauty
Leaves blow past, while others hold fast to near naked limbs

    I am quiet

That was beautiful, did you write it?

Personally, I love winter. Being inside with a cup of hot cider, wrapped in my favorite blanket, a good book to read.. I hate the sticky inescapable heat of summer and I love rain.. Summer is chaos, winter is peace.. spring and fall are somewhere in-between

Very nice poem. I have definite problems with winter. Some day I hope to move where the climate is more constant. I love the Fall though and would have to return to visit.

    Ah but Spring will come.

Brenda that's beautiful. We don't get that kind of winter in Australia (at least where I am). There's a drought, in fact.

    Aye Brenda!

    I can relate to this:

Four months to go until spring, only four months
To endure the cold, the withdrawn introversion of
    This dark season

The cold just cuts me. I love Autumn...But Winter. Must be short and sweet for me..

I love autumn and hate winter. About this time in fall I start steeling myself for winter.

We've had a "pinapple express" firehosing the Pacific NW the last several days. Temps as high as 70, lows low 60, and humidity in the 90's! Flooding all over the place. Give it 5 degrees more and it'd be Hawaii, except the rain here is colder.

Ahhh, Hawaii. We'll see you for a week in January! (dammit, only a week)

PS, yes, I wrote it, on the date indicated.

I've been thoroughly enjoying the "pinapple express" but then, like I said, I love rain It helps that I haven't had to be out and about in it, just watching it from inside.. except yesterday, we were going to go up to our property but the road was closed due to a mud slide. The next front will be a cold one, coming from the north this time.

We've had thunder rolling over us for a few hours.. kinda creepy cool.
