Islam's Hour of Judgement

Countries, governments, and social systems all can encounter a special time of judgement - a unique moment in history

when they must face reality and survive - or wither away as another of humanity's dead ends.

The Muslim world has entered such a time. They must progress or face a destruction of their own making.

I'm shocked at how few people actually appreciate the danger that 9-11 exposed. The world of mankind contains a 'mind-virus'

little different from Invasion of the Body Snatchers in its importance. Intelligent individuals - who are often educated and able

to afford the advantages of Western life - choose to commit mass murder and suicide because of wrongs done to their 'group' -

( as opposed to whatever oppressions they have inflicted on each other). If Israel disappeared in a puff of smoke tomorrow,

I have little doubt that the Muslim world would not be one bit richer or more civilized - maybe less. If you still think my view is

wrong , consider a joke: The Angel Gabriel appears to a Muslim and tells him he can have anything he wants --- but twice as

much will be given to a Jew. If he answers, "Gouge out one eye", then you know where this culture is headed.

It is in this context that I see Iraq and the efforts towards a Palestinian state as heroic and farsighted - by the US.

Left to themselves, I see no reason to expect anything out of the Muslim world resembling human rights or prosperity

(apart from oil money not spent on weapons). Nevertheless, forcing representive governance on unwilling people isn't

a good enough reason to openly go to war ( that's where the WMD claims come in).

For their sakes, I hope these efforts work. If they don't we have Hiroshima and Nagasaki as examples of reaction to a

mass religious/military suicide cult. That's the sad reality that academics and peaceniks don't see.

The technology of the 21st century demands that people behave themselves as never before - consider the progression

    of a hate-filled warrior picking up a rock ----- then a spear ------ then a sword ------ then a gun ----- then a missile -------

and then - who knows? Plutonium? Anthrax? One guy gets to kill a nation or a world - such is the progression of

    'productivity'!

In 1998, a military trained psychic ( Joe McMoneagle) predicted a war in Northern Iraq that "would change everything"

with little of that positive. He didn't predict a deliberate war to 'domino' events in the Middle East such as happened in Iraq.

I am cautiously hopeful about this - and of efforts to create new energy sources that would negate most of Arab influence,

    leading to greater world peace.

    Nope.

Alternative energy would just take away the one thing these desert peoples have to sell - leading to mass poverty and greater fanaticism.

The sad thing is that we're just going to use up all the energy and then abandon those poor starving wretches to their fate...

Oh well, what are you going to do about it? War will destroy all of us eventually.

You don't get it Met. Humans are doomed if left to themselves. There is a difference between optimism and faith. All organisms have sensory systems that facilitate a degree of optimism - sensory systems scan the environment with the intention of discovering something useful. Faith is unique to humans - and is often non-sensory - nonsense - blind.

Unless there is a power external to man that can rescue us we are indeed doomed.

And if someone told you during the '80's "the Soviet Union will peacefully collapse without nuclear war and will adopt capitalism

,letting it's captive non-Russian nations go", you would have thought the notion absurd.

Islam will not end the world - although the world might end Islam!

Humans are far more than a pile of atoms. We have abilities as yet unrecognized.

...... and if we can create a reasonable degree of world security, humans will gain god-like power over life in less

    than twenty years.

The Islamic West-haters aren't going to collapse like the Soviet Union. They've got [a] God on their side, whereas the Soviet Union didn't. As long as there is an American presence in the Middle East, there will be fanatical hatred and a holy war to wipe out us "infidels".

Czar's got it pretty close. I'd substitute the word "leave" for the word "abandon" though. The best thing we can do is give them what they want and get out of there. Buy their oil, sure, but just be a check in the mail and nothing more. The U.S. simply can't change the way of life in the Arab world, we have to let them do that for themselves. Removing all of our influence unfortunately also means that Israel will be on their own and it also would mean if I had my way that even humanitarian aid would end. Sorry y'all but that humanitarian aid and those foreign aid dollars are sorely needed right here at home. I'd rather see food shipments and medical supplies dropped over the impoverished areas right here in the U.S.

Yeah I was one of the ones cheering as each bomb exploded in Baghdad and I still support that war. But you know what? I'm getting tired of seeing so much more effort put into helping people halfway around the world, some of whom don't really even want that help, when there's American citizens right here who need it just as much.

Islam has two distinct challanges. One, its own descent into fanaticism which would eventually end in suicide and two, a new revelation.

I doubt that oil prices are the major reason for all the conflict in the Middle East. Major segments of the population don't like the influence that Western Civilization has had on it's culture. Much of this is due to the fact that the resources in that part world are mostly gourged and horded by the powers that be and this is probably done with the subtle support of own goverment.

The most detrimental developement in this issue, imo, is the advent of extremists leaders on both sides of the conflict. The ppl calling the shots now would rather see us fight it out than having to save face and violate thier precious ideologies. I say let Arafat, Sharon, Bush, Saddam, Bin Laden and their respective staffs and cronies duke it out themsleves and leave everyone else the hell alone.
