My computer went into melt down about 3 days ago after I opened an email from UPS of all places, saying they couldn't deliver a package. I was informed to download a form and bring it to the local office. I would have ignored it except my husband had called about 1/2 hour previously asking if a package had been delivered.
About a minute later I start getting the messages I have a huge virus and to get updates for my computer from microsoft. Turns out it was from the same Trojan hourse. My anitvirus software kept warning me and then shutting me down. I finally unplugged.
My son came today and cleaned everything......except when I got back on line 2 warnings kept showing up and then shutting me down again. The antivirus software kept telling me, The file was left alone, clean, and quarantine had failed.
Turns out, if you don't turn off System Restore, Windows programing prevents any outside programs including antivirus programs from modifying System Restore. In otherwords it just keeps restoring the virus! This went on for 2 days.
After it is cleaned and shut down you can turn back on your system restore.
I'm sure many out there know this, but thought it may help someone.
