  A response to an inquiry about gaining access to U.N. libraries:

  Dear Mr. Brewer,

  In answer to your questions:

  1) Although the Dag Hammarskjöld Library and the NGO Section are both

  within DPI, admission to the Library is not related to NGO status except in
  the positive sense: anyone with a pass permitting entrance to the United
  Nations premises (including accredited NGO representatives as well as
  accredited members of the press) can enter and use the Library facilities.
  Otherwise, a library pass is required. Passes are granted to serious
  researchers upon presentation of a letter with the raised seal of your
  institution and subject to clearance by both the Library and UN Security.

  2) Depository libraries are open to the general public and should be
  approached first, as most often they have the materials you require.
  3) I am not aware of any changes in 1991.
  4) Our name is the Dag Hammarskjöld Library. Please contact our website at
  http://www.un.org/Depts/dhl/ for information on our products and services.
  The Cambridge University Library is a full deposit with material going
  back to 1947, and, as stated above, the depository collection is mandated
  to be open to the public.

  So the WT did not need to sign on as an NGO to gain access? They could have simply requested a pass? So they are either really dumb or lying? Astonishing!

  This is rather damaging to the Watchtower's reputation and I guess, "The Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses", to use the new corporate identity.

  I guess our friends at the Guardian have seen this or made their own inquiries.

  My own reaction to all the lame and contradictory explanations for their UNDPI assocation was: LIARS! But now, I think I was wrong - I think these guys just don't have an idea what they were and are doing. So much for being "spirit directed".

  As the old saying goes, never attribute to malice what can sufficiently be explained by incompetence.

  I'll give you just one guess as to which, Lie or Dumb..

  One Clue: They claim in their "official branch letter" that they had access to the library even before 1991 when they "applied".. So, they obviously had to go through the "procedure" to get access to the library WITHOUT being an NGO!!! THey knew what it was, and they obviously met the requirements, or else they wouldn't have had access to the library.. !!!!

  They LIED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (ohhh, it's soooo shocking <NOT>)

  You guys are good. keep it coming. Did the WT leaders forget their own words: "There is nothing hidden that shall not be made public."? Forgetfull aren't they?
