Here's the latest cost-cutting move: The Society is going to stop producing audio versions of its magazines on disk, and instead make them available as downloadable MP3 files from [somewhere, probably Watchtower.org] on the internet. I haven't seen the letter, but our PO gave me a heads-up on it. The letter will be read to the congregations this week.
So, thousands of good JWs who were convinced "Satan lives on the internet" will now be scrambling to get their DSL lines so they can be able to listen to the latest magazines. How many of them will discover search engines next, and then wonder "what happens if I type in 'Jehovah's Witnesses'?"
And all you nasty apostates were worried about not having access to the "members-only" Watchtower! See, Jah provides!
Now that they have breeched this wall, I fully expect further cost-cutting in the near future, maybe 3-5 years. I predict the KM and members-only Watchtower won't be printed on paper at all, just available at some secure "elders-only" website for download. Then the PO can download & print off the copies needed for the congregation. This of course passes the cost of paper and ink to the individual congregations, rather than the Society.
