Unclear if dead man was bomb suspect-police LONDON (Reuters) - Police said on Friday it was unclear whether a man they shot dead earlier in the day was one of four people wanted over attempted bomb attacks on London's transport system.Earlier, Sky television citing security sources reported the man was not one of four who tried to blow up three underground trains and a bus on Thursday.
Police shot the man at Stockwell station in south London on Friday morning. Officers had followed him because he came out of a house under surveillance as part of the investigation into Thursday's attempted attacks, police said.
Later in the day, police released closed circuit television pictures of four men they urgently want to question over the incidents -- apparently failed attempts to repeat deadly bombings mounted two weeks earlier.
"The man shot at Stockwell station is still subject to formal identification and it is not yet clear whether he is one of the four people we are seeking to identify and whose pictures have been released today," police said in a statement.
"It therefore remains extremely important that members of the public continue to assist police in relation to all four pictures."
The police said all deaths related to police operations were a matter of deep regret.
"Nevertheless the man who was shot was under police observation because he had emerged from a house that was itself under observation because it was linked to the investigation of yesterday's incidents," the statement said.
"He was then followed by surveillance officers to the station. His clothing and his behaviour at the station added to their suspicions."
An investigation into the circumstances of his death was under way, it said.
Thursday's attacks caused chaos but killed no one, in marked contrast to the bombings two weeks earlier which claimed the lives of 52 people as well as the four bombers.
So he was under suspicion.....so they follow him, allow him to get to the tube station, apprehend him and then shoot him 5 times from close range. Wow! I suppose it saves all the police work, gaining all those pesky matters of evidence and taking the matter to a jury trial.
