A recommended Reading List from the new book Take Back Your Life
Many of the books on this list we already know about. But there are many I never knew about and many are published articles in academic journals and would require access to those journals either through the net for a fee or in university libraries that subscribe to those journals. The * at the end of some entries are the books I have so if you need a particular quote and you know what page it is on I can find it for you. And I have some books that are not on the list (but I have posted them and they should be (or will be) in the Best of books section of the board.
Just reading through the list it is interesting to see what other groups mirror our experiences in the WTS. Because we were taught that the JWs were a unique group I think it is also important for us to review the experiences of others. JWs are not that unique after all. And when a person has been controlled in one group the risk of them falling into another group rises. It is similar to abused women who either go back to their abuser or find someone else who continues the abuse. We need to recognize the control techniques for what they are so we can arm ourselves against them and hold on to our freedom.
