Just one quote from the brochure which appears on the 2001 CD Watchtower library, what do you notice...?

Jehovah?s Witnesses are interested in you and your welfare. They want to be your friends and to tell you more about themselves, their beliefs, their organization, and how they feel about people and the world in which all of us live. To accomplish this purpose, they have prepared this brochure for you.

In most ways Jehovah?s Witnesses are like everyone else. They have their problems?economic, physical, emotional. They make mistakes at times, for they are not perfect, inspired, or infallible. But they try to learn from their experiences and diligently study the Bible to make needed corrections. They have made a dedication to God to do his will, and they apply themselves to fulfill this dedication. In all their activities they seek guidance from God?s Word and his holy spirit.

It is of vital importance to them that their beliefs be based on the Bible and not on mere human speculations or religious creeds. They feel as did the apostle Paul when he expressed himself under inspiration: "Let God be found true, though every man be found a liar." (Romans 3:4, New World Translation) When it comes to teachings offered as Biblical truth, they strongly endorse the course followed by the Beroeans when they heard the apostle Paul preach: "They received the word with the greatest eagerness of mind, carefully examining the Scriptures daily as to whether these things were so." (Acts 17:11) Jehovah?s Witnesses believe that all religious teachings should be subjected to this test of agreement with the Scriptures, whether the teaching is offered by them or by someone else. They invite you?urge you?to do this in your discussions with them.

The reason I looked at this brochure is it also praises the technology used in their preaching - evidence of the witnesses love / hate relationship with technology. But reading the whole brochure, I was amazed at how differently it was written from their many other literature. Here they are saying "here we are - we make mistakes." A very unusual statement from the borg. The brochure, yellow coloured and in magazine footprint was taken out of print shortly after publication and I was suprised to see it in the CD library.

to add, the brochure also freely admits that 1914 did not turn out the way the Bible students foretold, makes for an interesting read, I guess quotes site could compare this brochure with some other writtings.

They only say this to make it easy to spot the "uncooperative", "proud", and "goat like" people who can be filtered out. JWs are only interested in studying with people who are willing to believe everything taught by the WTS.

This is "Jehovah's witnesses in the Twentieth Century" originally published in 1979 and re printed in 1989we understood at the time that it was intended for distribution to the media , and P R work. That may account for its more polite and less inflamatory style. It also has this quote on page 29 which always struck me as dishonest, even back then

Do they believe that they are the only ones who will be saved?
No. Many millions that have lived in centuries past and who were not Jehovah?s Witnesses will come back in a resurrection and have an opportunity for life. Many now living may yet take a stand for truth and righteousness before the "great tribulation," and they will gain salvation. Moreover, Jesus said that we should not be judging one another. We look at the outward appearance; God looks at the heart. He sees accurately and judges mercifully. He has committed judgment into Jesus? hands, not ours.?Matthew 7:1-5; 24:21.

Here's the REAL TRUTH (same year):

w89 9/1 19 Remaining Organized for Survival Into the Millennium ***

Only Jehovah?s Witnesses, those of the anointed remnant and the "great crowd," as a united organization under the protection of the Supreme Organizer, have any Scriptural hope of surviving the impending end of this doomed system dominated by Satan the Devil. (Revelation 7:9-17; 2 Corinthians 4:4) They will make up the "flesh" that Jesus Christ said would be saved through the worst tribulation of all human history.

No they're not - read again

They're saying "jehovahs witnesses" make mistakes - you know, the earth bound plebs that haven't been performing well in front of the 'gentiles'.

There's no we make mistakes written above, just that they make mistakes.

"I" or "We" never enters into it and never has - you must have been thinking about those "zealous brothers".

What I do not get is that Humility is an identifying mark of a true Christian -Jesus showed it, the WTBTS preach it in the WT magazine and other publications - it is talked about from KH and assembly platforms -WHY DONT THE WTBTS SHOW MORE HUMILITY THEMSELVES? I think virtually everyone on this board would respect them a little more if they showed some humility and started imitating Jesus

    Bluesbrother,

I remember someone asking me this question and then giving them this brochure with the above quote to explain them to them that "no we don't believe that only JWs will be saved" and then feeling really weird about it--like maybe I was telling a lie or something?

    Blondie,

Guess this is why my conscience was bothering me. Funny, when I was in the Org I forgot how to add 2+2.
