    Hi Cedars,

    re: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/scandals/250655/1/I-have-just-been-disinvited-to-my-brothers-wedding-Thanks-AAWA

I completely agree with the mission and intentions of AAWA. I think it is the right "KIND" of thing to pursue to setup...

However - given this thread and probably others (I have not been reading a real lot of them nor following) I think it is not right to dismiss Simon and put him in his place by saying he has a personal crusade (im imagining re: AAWA) when in actual fact you being involved in the formation of AAWA .....IS A PERSONAL CRUSADE in itself.

The pot calling the kettle black here!

All Simon was doing was calling for an action by AAWA to PROTECT OTHERS

just like AAWA is calling for action by the WTBTS to PROTECT - families(from disfellowshipping affects) lives (re: blood issue), children (sexual abuse cover ups in the borg)

really i think we are ALL ON THE SAME TEAM. We just need to be fighting in an organised fashion.

Perhaps AAWA does need to look at whats been happening and revisit because people ARE LOOSING THEIR FAMILIES because of a lack of controls around the administartion of the AAWA fb page

Don't have a clinical view to investigating this...have a humanistic view

I will NOT support AAWA -until it tightens up ship and protects members - and to let you know I have a lot to offer AAWA

    Sent with peace and kindness

AAWA needs to get rid of its arrogance.

    Hi Cedars,

I value greatly the work you have done, and believe that pooling our resources can have the greatest impact against the WBTS. However I do think lp is right that we need to ensure a secure environment to do so. JWN has mostly afforded us anonymity if we choose so for people like me it's been possible to enjoy a measure of contact.

I'm more than happy to offer my support but can't risk being outed (I do not use facebook).

Social networks are not safe... I do not understand why people that are in hiding add ex-JW's when they have pro-JW's in their list as well. I do not know exactly if you can blame AAWA for that. Facebook in its nature is about sharing everything and since they are crap in guarding your privacy it is just best not to associate with these groups UNLESS you WANT to make a statement.

Besides... adding people without their consent is more a problem with your privacy-statements in your facebook. If you are using facebook the first thing you should do is to check these settings... you may be surpised how many things are "open" to the world without you knowing.

So... I think it is more to blame on facebook... and the nazi-JW's who are making fake accounts because they want to keep the bOrg clean

I dont blame facebook one bit. It is well known to be the most unsafe social network site on the internet...

why an organization that wanted to have a secret membership chose THAT site is beyond me.

I think the founders of AAWA were probably a little bit naive in their use of Facebook; however, when they realized the problem with that social networking site, they appear to have felt backed into a corner and perhaps human pride stopped them from simply acknowledging they'd made a significant error of tactics.

I think this is where the "business-like model" became a stumbling block for AAWA.

i know many may not agree with me but, the first thing i noticed with this whole awaa thing is when you have christain and non christain working together to get ppl out of the wt, and you say there is no religoues goal, that makes no sense to me, if you are a christain there is no way to can just be content to get ppl out, you should want to replace the org with the truth of jesus, i understand wanting to help ppl get out because the wt is hurting ppl and im 100 percent for that, but as a christain you believe there is no salvation in or out of the wt without being born again, so thats just my opinion.

If I wished to get someone out of a nasty Political Party I would do so and then let them make up their own mind as an adult who they will support, I think the same attitude will prevail with the religious members of AAWA, if not it will lose all credibility.

Unstoppableravens you present an interesting aspect to this issue that I had not considered before. That said, it doesn't take too much thought to see that oftentimes ruptures in groups have been much more likely to occur among believers: Look at the splits that have characterized many fundamentalist groups, including pentecostals who have a negative reputation for creating schisms among groups of believers. I'm surprised the heated debates among religious people did not strike you as worthy of comment!

Besides, the issue that appears to have torpedoed AAWA was not about its stated purpose - i.e., exposing the Watchtower - rather it was AAWA's lack of attention to remedying the Facebook fiasco - hardly a doctrinal or belief issue, right?

One final point: This very forum you are posting on is an excellent example of believers and nonbelievers having in common a desire to provide a safe venue for ex-JWs, current JWs and non-JWs with JW links to talk through issues without feeling 'forced' to adopt one set of beliefs or another. Sure, it leads to at times lots of strong opinions being advanced but the posters learn tolerance and the ability to apologize if they overstep the mark (as I have done from time to time).
