Win asked: "Are the elders starting to physically flog people at meetings now which is contributing to this exodus out of the bOrg...?"

iraq "debacle" rant debunked , geraldo rivera on fox - fairly old article but interesting.
if you hear about the buildings that are not burning, though, it is a different story indeed.
"Let us hear NO MORE Vietnam comparisons."
How about just one:
"We can see light at the end of the tunnel. We are winning the battle for the hearts and minds of the Vietnamese."
-- U.S. Army officials in 1968, just prior to the Tet Offensive.
we're all familiar with the wt's "history" of the origin of the phrase "god bless you" ("geshundeit" in german) in response to someone's sneezing.
the wts says it originated with the pagan belief that the soul leaves the body when you sneeze and the "bless you" is part of a superstition to protect you from demon invasion.
given that background, jw's don't say anything when someone sneezes.
For people brought up to belief it's good manners to "bless" someone for sneezing, this is another of those many socially awkward things about being a Witness.
In the newspaper recently was an article about sneezing, including some related historical facts. According to the report, the term "God Bless You" began to accompany a sneeze in 590 AD when, during an epidemic caused by airborne germs, the Pope offered a blessing to sufferers. Thus was born the custom of blessing someone when he sneezed. It was a good wish, an expression not unlike the bible's "good health to you" found in Acts. The German "Geshundeit" in act means "Bless You." The French use the phrase "Sante" which means health.
Makes you wonder why "the rest of the story" does not appear in any WT publications. Ever wonder about this?
hi dear friends....... .
one question.... what will you do next april 04, sunday?........
i know you have a lot of ideas for being so far from the kh that day, and not attending the memorial.
It's my mother's birthday. We'll probably take her out.
Devon has his priorities in order. Show love to your mother, vs. show love to "mother." It's an easy call.
god certainly realizes that carrying out his righteous laws about cutting off wrongdoers often involves and affects relatives.
as mentioned above, when an israelite wrongdoer was executed, no more family association was possible.
in fact, if a son was a drunkard and a glutton, his parents were to bring him before the judges, and if he was unrepentant, the parents were to share in the just executing of him, 'to clear away what is bad from the midst of israel.
If there is some valid reason to suspect that the alleged perpetrator is still abusing children, a warning may have to be given.
May have to be given? May?
This says all there is to say about the WTS warped approach to this issue. What possibly reason would there be for NOT warning someone when the "alleged perpetrator" is "still abusing children"?
i was with my boyfriend's family who are jewish.
having grown up as a witness, i always felt closer to jews than most christians (when you think about it there are a number of commonalities, like not celebrating christmas, having a "memorial" often on passover night that talks a lot about the israelites escaping egypt, the whole ot focus of the witnesses instead of on the christ of the nt, etc.).
anyway, it was thanksgiving and my boyfriend's aunt was there who was a holocaust survivor.
You are so right about the Jewish connection we JW's (past and present) all feel. JW's focus on the OT as opposed to the New, on Jehovah rather than Jesus. The early WT "fathers" were like the first century Jewish Christians who wanted to "re-Judah-ize" the fledgling congregation. JW's are much more closely aligned with Jewish religious tradition and far removed from mainstream Christianity. Funny how we mistook that for "truth."
joseph was 30 when pharo gave him egypt, why because he prefigured jesus, david was 30 when god made him king, why because he prefigured jesus.why was jesus 30 when god gave him his ministry, because thats the age adam was when god gave him eve.. why would god put all of these scriptures in the bible if adam was only 25 or 26 when god made eve.
gen 41:46 num 4:3 num 4:23 2sam 5:4 1chron 23:3 luke 3:23 adam was the first king.
an age god decided a man was of age.because if jesus was 30 and adam was only 25 then the devil has a legal case that god is cheating, that jesus had longer to develop than adam.
Webclocker: Perhaps if you had read a couple of hundred posts before you jumped in, you'd know you can't just come here and throw down the gauntlet with some half-baked argument. Many people here actually know what the bible says and have a well thought out opinion on it. Also, they can spell.
did you love it?
were you in awe of it?
were you a true believer?
Thanks to Nina for providing the template:
Yep, that was me -- a true believer. I believed it, lived it, preached it. My first doubts came when I saw [fill in appropriate event here] and they multiplied like rabbits after that.
Many of us were true believers until something, or a series of somethings, startled us out of our trance. Now when I look back at these disquieting things, I am astounded how long the list is and that it took so long to "see" it.
hello everyone....i'm new here.. i was raised as a jw until i turned 19 when i decided to stop attending the meetings.
i just rathered not think about it for a few years.
now, i'm married and my husband and i are searching.
The first thing you need to do is re-assure yourself that the Watchtower is wrong. Armageddon is NOT coming "any day now," and you do NOT have to obey the Governing Body for any reason. What comes after that is entirely up to you.
Truth 101.
with this link, you can calculate when the 14th of nisan will fall on for every year.. 14 nisan 5764 => monday 5 april 2004.
14 nisan 5765 => saturday 23 april 2005.
14 nisan 5766 => wednesday 12 april 2006.
However, this may or may not coincide with the WTS official date for the memorial, right? I am under impression the memorial this year is scheduled for a different date than April 5. Can anyone confirm?
