The simple things make life worth living, the things we often take for granted, such as waking up beside someone you love in the middle of the night, watching their peaceful face as they sleep, and just listening to them breathe.

To a casual observer this board may be nothing more than text on a screen, but as far as X-JW's go, boards like this could almost be called an "essential service". Disillusioned people leave the cult for one reason or another, are treated as though they're dead by their family and former friends, and somehow, have to rebuild their lives. Here we meet others who've "been there" and can offer support. We correspond with posts, then PM's, and Internet messaging. We start to phone one another, and often get to meet in person. We begin to develop a "support network" of friends, that sometimes become closer than family. We've seen beautiful relationships develop here, and sometimes even romances and marriage. I personally have met a number of great people on the board, some of whom have, over time, become closer than family to me. You all know who you are. Last week we had an apostofest here in Toronto, and there were people who visited from eastern Canada, Michigan, and Florida, as well as many from Ontario. That meetup would never have taken place had it not been for this board. Most of us would never have known one another.

Maybe the things you speak of were only minor, and we must await the greater, secondary, or spiritual fulfillments of prophesy. Maybe in 2034 the governing body will receive new light and realize that the time of the end will begin in the year 4554, after another 2520 years have passed. But they won't tell anyone that because it would diminish the urgency of the work. Instead, they will find more "spiritual" fullfillments and new meanings for the "beasts" in the bible's prophetic books. They will receive "new light" that reveals that the "other sheep" are not really a second class of humans, but rather they are literal sheep that are raised on the Watchtower farms. As in the case of blood, Jehovah's Witnesses will be prohibited from eating lamb. They will realize that their understanding of Balylon the Great was incorrect, but that's ok. It's all new light. They'll come to realize that they must build a large Bethel complex on the original site of ancient Babylon, and the sheep will be relocated to this new Bethel complex to await the rapture.

20 Years Ago Today

20 years ago today, was the beginning of the end of my life as a jehovah's witness.
when i think back to 10 years (1993) after leaving the jehovah's witnesses, i can remember not quite being so well-adjusted.
