my best friend threw mine, it was my 18th birthday.
she made a huge homemade cake for me with all 18 candles and icing.
it was my 30th birthday, which in the u.s. usually falls on or around election day.
my friends at work took me to the local bar (where we often had lunch). augie said, hey, youcan't drink here today bc it is election day. they said, but we have to, it is "--"s birthday! he said, ok, call in for pizza, pull down the shades, i am leaving, and take whatever you want from the bar. lock the door when you leave.
it was a most memorable day.

read in the newspaper today that out of the ten most distructive hurricanes in the last 100 years, seven have taken place since 2004.

i was reading another post about a "dear old circuit overseers wife" and it immediately brought back to mind an experience i had with one that wasn't so dear at all .
.. i "knew" this woman before she went into the circuit work with her husband.
granted, i didn't know her well - but i had moved into her congregation a few weeks before she and her husband left to go into the circuit work.
and then there's me who swallowed all of their s--t hook line and sinker and now i am 58 and i will never have children.
looking at the many and varied avatars, what voice would you imagine for the poster?
some have rumbly "exorcist voices" some squeaky.

as i read, the thing that produced a big belly laugh was the fact that wall street traders used the flashing wt sign across the east river as a tool for divination! lol
i watched dr. phil yesterday, where they were highlighting the disappearance of natalee holloway who disappeared in aruba over 5 months ago, and amy bradley who vanished from a cruise ship 7 years ago.
i always assumed that these girls were raped and then murdered and they very likely could be, but the program highlighted the sex-slave trade that is growing in leaps and bounds all over the world.
i sat there and listened in shock as one guy revealed what happens to some of these girls during snuff movies.
before i read rmt1's post i fully expected to see:
l) the evolutionists saying, "well we are only animals, what do you expect?"
vs.
2)believers saying, "well it is the last days, what do you expect?"
so which is it????
i haven't seen bebu posting these last few days, and thought maybe she went on vacation with her family.
then i started to wonder if her mom and her son were okay, as they both had serious medical problems lately.
bebu contacted me today, and told me her mom took a turn for the worst, and is in the icu.
oh man....
if there is one person that seems universally loved on this site it is bebu....
she has been there for so many with what i can only call....love...just love....
bebu, if you are watching...please know that so many thoughts and prayers are directed towards you and your family....
this will be my first christmas.
i'm not doing anything corny, no tree, no bigass fluoro santa.
just joining my new (husband's) family at their xmas gig - tacky presents for the kids, lots of food, stories by the old folk.

how does sort of but not really sound??
i have gone to in-laws xmas eve observances for many years.... we always did secret santa until last year when i persuaded to give all secret santa $ to charity instead.... the siblings sent almost $600 to a local food bank and i felt really good that it was my idea.......
we do gather relatives for a meal....
i have gone to midnight church services and have loved the organ music and observances.....
but.....
i am still very much aware that this is really a pagan celebration for the most part i.e. the date, the trappings.....
nevertheless, whatever i do, i try to remember the real meaning and spirit of xmas and the celebration of our Savior, Jesus Christ..
some of you may remember larc and zazuwitts, who used to post here regularly.. .
i heard from zazu today that sadly larc passed away this morning.
he died peacefully in his sleep of heart failure.
when i first came here larc was around a lot, posting excellent wisdom and advice and insight. he and i had some conversations that still stay with me in an encouraging way.
i am sad that he is gone.
but not forgotten.
