As I recall, Sidlik's wife had her arm around him all the time during prayers.

New Light: Don't hold hands during prayers
by RR infrom the watchtower november 15 study edition.. 19 when we are being represented in public prayer, we need to display reverential "fear of god.
" (1 pet 2:17) there may be a proper time and place for some actions that would be inappropriate at a christian meeting.
(eccl 3:1) for instance, suppose someone sought to have all in a group link arms or hold hands during prayer.

by Marvin Shilmer inwatchtower blood transfusion, denys and crile.
watchtower writes:.
it is of no consequence that the blood is taken into the body through the veins instead of the mouth.

I am sure that there was a WT article within the last 5(?) years that mocked something else that quoted an authority (medical I believe) that was a few hundred years old. That citing such an authority would make them lose all credibility. Does anyone remember that article? Since I was aware of this situation with Denys, I was amazed that they would dare publish such a statement.

Elder doesn't remember being on judicial committee with my wife
by JimmyPage inmy wife was talking to an elder at the meeting recently.
he asked her if she was still on restrictions (for our pre-marital hanky panky).
he went on to imply that they would probably be lifted soon.

I can easily picture myself being like that elder. I have a natural tendency to be forgetful about a lot of things, even in my own life. Also, while I was one I was dealing with the abuse of my own child.
Elders can't win. Some really are no good but many are. If he remembered, there would be complaints that they never forget what someone has done wrong. If he forgets, then he just doesn't care.
Very much like threads about visiting disfellowshipped. If they come, they're bad because they won't leave you alone. If they don't come it proves that they don't care.

JW Defenders- Is WTS Right to Insist You Stay Away From these Websites?
by OnTheWayOut ini read these threads and there are a few that bend over backwards to say why wts is correct on this issue or that issue.. they act like typical jw's that refuse to acknowledge points that may show that wts is not following the scriptures or that wts goes beyond the scriptures in a way that is not supported by others.. the point could be the blood issue or shunning or whether 1799 or 1914 was the start (or finish?
) of the last days or whether there is a faithful and discreet slave class or not.
i don't want to harp on each point.

ATJ,
With all that you read and learn about the JW's on the internet, do you personally believe that this is the one true religion?
Maybe, depends on your definition of "true religion".
Jehovah the one true god?
Believe so, but readily admit to not understanding many things.
and that everyone else who is a non JW is dead?
No, unless there is some dramatic, unmistakable turn of events that is obvious to all.

ATJ,
Offensive? I've been on this board for about 8 years now. I don't expect to see many more surprises.
Some reasons I have been here:
I believe the powers that be (GB, service, etc.) are wrong when they do not make full disclosure of their errors or when demanding blind obedience. Topics such as blood and child abuse are not dealt with openly.
I have also had some good discussions here with people like Maximus, Marvin Shilmer, Old Soul and Big Tex.
Some people have been seriously hurt for being a JW. I disagree with policy of shooting the wounded. I have tried to reach out to a few people privately. Doing so openly generally stirs up the rabid crowd here.

OTWO,
You asked "Is WTS right to insist that "true Christians" stay away from websites that debate the Bible and WT doctrine? "
My response is my opinion, not a statement about WTS policy. It was actually more of a disagreement with WT writings on this topic. As for judicial action, this is subject to interpretation by your local BOE.
"If direction is not clear, then they should be discreet and not be so confident that their directives are correct."
Agreed.
"Isn't that independent thinking?"
Guilty as charged. I can be independent of both unreasonable JW's and unreasonable ex-JW's.

Outlaw,
You probably don't even realize you just called OnTheWayOut an idiot . . .
LOL!
Now I'll tip you off to something. Shhhhh . . . . we'll just keep this between us. Not all JW's follow all the rules

Is WTS right to insist that "true Christians" stay away from websites that debate the Bible and WT doctrine?
"Insist", no. Suggest, yes.
If they are wrong, isn't it possible that they are not spirit-directed?
Question is framed as an absolute. I do not believe that is true. Is parent always right? No, but perhaps more often than not.
Even if they are wrong, aren't you running ahead of them instead of waiting on Jehovah to reveal new light for you to come to these websites and "save us" or whatever it is you think you are doing here?
Some of us are willing to make our own decisions.
What are you trying to get at?

Have you ever been to FAMILY NIGHT at BETHEL?
by BonaFide infamily night is held once a year at bethel and all the branches.
when i was a missionary, every year both missionary homes in that country were invited to the branch office, and we had a dinner with the bethelites, and family night.
the bethelites did some singing and skits, and each missionary home was invited to submit something.

I went to a couple. I thought they were enjoyable but they were 30 years ago probably on a shorter leash now.
A Gilead graduation I went to featured the grads performing a scene from the Wiz. I believe it was to the music of Ease on Down the Road.
