  i ask this question because now that i'm out of the borg and see things for what they are, i have been reflecting on what i did and said as a dub.. i truly believed in the preaching work when i was in.

  i believed in alot of the things from the bible.

  so for me, the preaching was something i enjoyed.

  Like you blissisignorance I could never go door to door again with all this child molestation media scandal breaking out.

  One thing that troubled my conscience was not being allowed to say at least a harmless 'hello' to disfellowshipped ones. That always felt wrong.

  i haven't to a meeting in about 2 or so months and tonight one of the local elders came to visit me.. he goes on about, how he and the hall misses me and loves me.

  and they want to go back to the meetings, "it must be a teenager thing, everyone went thru it, but i know that you will be back.

  i have been thinking about this a lot.. my family treats child molesters better than they treat me.

  my sister-in-law's father was accused of child abuse by her sister.

  since there weren't two witnesses to this terrible violation, he is still in good standing in the congregation to this day.

  Geez have they really deepfried JW's for masturbation? Heck, then I guess 99% of single males in the truth shoulda been deepfriend ages ago (unless you're one of those freak goodie two-shoe square peg Amish Bethel, MS school graduate prissy pioneer eunech types, yeck). Then there'd be no one left, hahaha...

  Actually, on a more serious side, I think this is one of the reasons why there are so many sexual perverts lurking in the Org, because of the unbalanced view of sex and obsession with things like masturbation, oral sex, etc being so wrong. What is repressed grows stronger and by heaping all this guilt on young JW's about masturbation etc they get warped and obsessed with it, hence turn into kiddie fiddlers and so on. Probably analogous with the rampant problem of homosexuality in the Catholic Church and any church which enforces celibacy...the sex drive just gets warped through guilt and repression and look at the horrible consequences.

  a short background of this topic before the question: at a very young age.

  very young i was sexually abused, by more than one member of our congregation.

  the equation: voluntary workforce + minimal publication costs + minimal building costs + sweet crazy money - charity involvement = $????.

  i am seeking factual evidence or documented information on the watchtower society's accumulated financial wealth, which they apparently just seem to be sitting on.

  i have a jw coworker (a good guy) whose "kryptonite" may just prove to be his curiosity concerning the wbts's big fat juicy hoard of cash.

  the weirdest thing is how the Society lend money to build kingdom halls, then charge interest on it until it's repaid, and the legal title is in their name the whole time anyway. What a hoot!

  the words 'therefore'and 'so' are usually used to indicate that what follows is the conclusion of an argument, either explicitly stated or implied.

  for instance, in the following argument, the word 'therefore' is used correctly to indicate that what follows is a conclusion derived from the given premises by means of deduction:

  An inappropriate use of the word 'therefore' or 'so' to persuade listeners or readers that something has been proved when in fact is hasn't. The words 'therefore'and 'so' are usually used to indicate that what follows is the conclusion of an argument, either explicitly stated or implied. For instance, in the following argument, the word 'therefore' is used correctly to indicate that what follows is a conclusion derived from the given premises by means of deduction:

  All fish live in water

  Socrates is a fish

  Therefore Socrates lives in water.

  The word 'so' could equally well have been used in place of 'therefore'. In everyday speech it is often tedious and unnecessary to spell out all the premises of an argument, since it is usually reasonable to assume that the person with whom we are talking shares many of our assumptions. We would probably be inclined to say something like: 'Socrates is a fish, so of course he lives in water', rather than give the full argument as above. This is an enthymeme, an argument with a suppressed premise (that all fish live in water). There is nothing wrong with this provided that it is clear what has been left out.

  However, some writers and speakers exploit the persuasive power of 'therefore' and 'so', and liberally sprinkle their prose with these words, even though they do not offer any argument for their would-be conclusions (eg, most of JCanons threads). This is an easy alternative to arguing for your conclusions and many casual readers are taken in by it. But in fact the supposed conclusions which follow spurious uses of 'therefore' and 'so' are non sequiturs. For instance, if someone says 'Boxing often causes brain damage, so it should be banned', the conclusion which follows 'so' could have been derived from several different suppressed premises, such as 'Any activity which often causes brain damage should be banned' or 'Sports which often cause brain damage should be banned', or 'If boxing often causes brain damage then it should be banned',. This list does not exhaust the possible alternatives. But unless the premise is obvious in the context, or else actually stated, the use of 'so' is spurious: it gives the superficial appearance of an argument, but in fact is merely a disguised assertion. It is either a case of sloppy thinking, or else an attempt to persuade by means of a rhetorical device.
