I have one fun fact to share with all of you. Since my story focused mainly about me and kept the story about my family to a minimal(s?).
Marlee Matlin, the deaf actress who won the Oscar for Best Actress for her role on the film, "Children of a Lesser God". She graduated from Center on Deafness. CoD deafness is broken up in 4 catagories. Education, Theraputic, Art and Drama. I did all 3 except Drama. I got the major stage frights. LOL
After Marlee left CoD and landed a part of a stage play of the same name. The play was held in Chicago, but there was also other cities that had the same play. New York, LA, etc. One of the directors from Hollywood saw the stage play in LA and he liked it alot. So he wanted to do a movie based on it. When he found out other cities was doing the same play. He sent some people out to check out the other actresses and interview them as well taking pictures of them.
The director then sorted out the information and he liked the one from New York and Marlee from Chicago. So instead of calling them since he was aware both of them are deaf, he sent an overnight express mail telling them he is going to do a film base of the stage play and he asked them to come to Hollywood so he could do a screen test for each one of them.
When Marlee got the mail, she couldn't believe what she was seeing and she called her mom over and had her read the letter to make sure she wasn't seeing things. Mom told Marlee it reads what it said. So she and her family packed their bags and flew to California expense paid by the company that the director worked for.
Marlee and her competitor both did the screen test. They were told to come back the next day for a final answer. So they did. As you know the ending, Marlee got picked. Boy she jumped up and down and screamed like there's no tomorrow.
Then one success lead to another. She appeared in more films as well as television movies. She also had a short lived television series, "Reasonable Doubt" who she played as a deaf attorney with a hearing partner who investigates the cases. Sorta like Perry Mason, but with a twist.
She still appear in various television programs, commericals and some movies from time to time. She also shows up at the deaf theater in California to help teach other newly deaf actors and actresses learning the trade.
She just had a new baby, a 10lb baby boy. You can see her new baby at her website here.
Here's a good profile here.
The CoD moved from Des Plaines, Illinois to Northbrook, Illinois now. They got a much bigger building and the new home dorms are absolutely fantastic. Much improved over the years. They deserved all they got and the hard work paid off.
Marlee did not look like how she appeared in the first film Children of a Lesser God, in fact, she's really a redhead and wore those goofy looking glasses at the time. Her hair was also curly. Very curly. LOL. But Hollywood transformed her alot and she is more beautiful now than what she was back in 1985.
I dated her girlfriend for a while. She and Marlee are best friends and still are to this day.

Found - Wow,
that is quite a story! Good luck with finding the necessary interview clothes. Some towns have groups who supply people in need office type clothing to help them get started. Not sure who you would contact for that, I just remember that in the past a group had asked my office for donations of clothing for that purpose.
Back in the 80's I used to interpret sign language in our kingdom hall for the deaf who attended. I wasn't very good, but they were very patient with me. I first was introduced to the deaf community by a good friend in Ann Arbor Michigan. I met him when I was very young and we became good friends by the time I was 12. He was deaf from birth and never seemed "odd" to me. I only mention that because of all your early experience with hearing people, I'm so sorry you suffered so much because of their ignorance. Do you know anyone from that area? We may know some of the same people.
Keep your chin up and best of luck to you!
Thanks.
No I don't know anyone from Michigan. Sorry Found.
That's cool you knew sign language and interpreted for the deaf.
You know that certified interpretors make around $45.00 to $90.00 an hour? Depending on the situation. Court interpreting is usually around $45.00 an hour or more. I would guess it depends on the state in which you live in. It's good money.
Hope you kept up the signs.
Cheers,

SixofNine - just use that rolled up cloth seamstress' tape that you use to measure your.... uhm...er... never mind. get your sister to help you.
Seriously, If you are in a 40-42 range, I can probably help you out. the pants might be a bit tight, though not by much. Diet for the next few days.
I think I am around the 40-42 range. But I will try to remember to drive straight to my sister's house after work tomorrow and have her measure me. Then post it as soon as I get home.
The cold would have a tendacy to make me forget as I want to get home NOW to get warm! LOL
I got a feeling I will forget and bonk my head for forgetting and head back out to my sister's!

SixofNine - What is your chest size (for the jacket)?
I have no idea exactly. I don't have a measuring tape of some kind to measure myself. I'm sort of skinny.
I guess I'll need to see my sister and ask her to measure my chest so then I can post the information.

Ack! Well it's supposed to be next week Tuesday at 10 AM, I saw the time being wrong, but didn't look close enough on the date they sent me. But I know the date (as I have the printout from the TDD in my wallet) is the 17th, Tuesday at 10 AM.
The lady sent me directions is what I had asked for, so my guess is she sent me this just for the directions since she knows when and what time I have to be there.
So I will be there for the interview.
I have everything they requested, except for a business suit.

Well,
Go back to the resources from before. People who help themselves makes others want to help. Go to a church and see if they have one that could be donated, and if maybe someone knows how to cut hair and you can repay them when you get the job or another job.
Just an idea.
Jesika
I guess I could do that. I don't know if the place I already went to for help on my mortgage can help me again for a suit and a haircut.
I'll keep trying.

GOOD LORD!!!!!!!!!! When you emailed me and told me it was long, you weren't kidding.
I hope writting your story was as healing for you as it was for me.
You have come a long way since all that has happened to you. Like I told you before keep your chin up and things will work out. Financal situations are temporary, and change. So, you took the advice of those on the board and things are looking better.
Good luck on the job hunt. You told me you got a call from someone about a job, how did that turn out?
(btw----yes I did read the whole story)
Love,
Jesika
heh, it is a rather long story. But I felt I need to put down the story because I felt they were important.
It is sorta been a healing for me to write my story. I do feel a little better.
Well, I am out of the mortgage situation. So I hope I stay out too.

OfficeTeamHere's a problem. I don't have a suit. My last suit is too small for me. I don't even have any money to purchase a new suit and I still need a haircut.
I really like to get out of the retail business and get into some kind of office job instead.
