  other than the story, the comments are very interesting, tons of comments by other blacks claiming the same thing happens to them.

  not only other blacks but their families as well bully them, calling them oreo, traitor, etc.

  @EOM. So, now you know the reason for white privilege? It's because blacks really do do things to deserve the discrimination? That's an ugly accusation.

  This is actually an academic area of study, not just a theory. It is backed by statistics. And there is no evidence that blacks are encouraging the phenomenon. In fact, there are academic discussions about the function of the kind of shaming that you speak about. It's about policing group boundaries. A subjugated group survives because of group cohesion. Again, research it. I am unable to write an academic paper on the subject for this forum.

  @Violia, I, of course, can't speak to your personal experience, just as you can't speak of the experiences of other ethnicities. Which, of course, is the point. This is a macro phenomenon not well understood at the personal level.

  Eom, simply because your ancestors were white, you benefit from white privilege. You are pulled over less often by the police, you enjoy a higher employment rate and can shop in public without suspicion, among other things.

  Please research this. It's a verified phenomenon. It's designed to be invisible to those who benefit from it.

  Prologos, your analogy of the internal clock dropping digits and therefore fewer being counted is close to an idea I've had about the speeding up of time as we age.

  I've thought about how as we age, our senses become duller, and we take in fewer bits of information. Fewer data is read by our brain as "faster."

  I dunno, though, I'm "only" 42. But, I've been going gray since I was in high school and if I didn't have a very friendly relationship with Miss Clairol I'd be nearly completely gray. ;)

  I routinely got dragged to the basement to get whacked. I screamed so loud that a pioneer gleefully reported that another little girl thought there was a monster living in the basement.

  But, what got me was that bringing coloring books or other things to occupy children was looked down upon because it wasn't spiritual. All you got was the Book of Bible stories and that was boring.

  yes, the jws continue to bleed their young ones, so far in my local kh 3 were dfd, one girl just turned 18 this month and packed her bags and said goodbye to the cult and her cultish parents, another young 18 year old man decided to have a non-jw girlfriend and decided to stop attending and is no longer a witness.

  they continue to leave and wt leaders dont give a damn.

  they dont do anything to help kids be successful and live a healthy life.. .

  Some cops are just on a power trip and harrass people because they can. When my husband was younger he got pulled over for no good reason. The only thing the cop would say was he thought he saw a weapon. He asked my husband if he had any weapons in the car and he answered truthfully that yes he had a compund bow locked in the trunk because he had been hunting that morning, but there were no firearms. He showed his hunting license.They asked to search his car and he refused. He ended up handcuffed on the side of the road for 3 hours with multiple cops and eventually the supervisor there all because of a non existent handgun.

  He finally allowed them to search one part of the car at a time with the agreement that he was there watching so they didn't plant anything. They ripped his car apart. When they popped the trunk open, there was the hunting bow just as promised, but no handgun. They were obviously pissed off as my husband started laughing at them for wasting 3 hours of their time for nothing. He got the cops name and badge number and reported it to his cousin on whose property he had been hunting who was an officer for a different agency, but managed to get the cop reprimanded.

  Cops just like to harass young people to intimidate them and to look for easy tickets and arrests so they can get promotions. They tend to go much harder on boys than girls though. I've never been harassed and any time I get pulled over for speeding, I pull the keys out of the ignition and throw them on the dash so they know I won't flee,

  keep my hands in plain view, tell them I need to reach into the glovebox to get my registration so they know I'm not reaching for a gun and smile politely. And if they ask if I know why I've been pulled over, I just say no and when they inform me, don't make any admissions of guilt. I've never had a problem and a few times I've only got a warning!

  We have a "Cadillac" plan as a benefit from my husband's employment. When his union was negotiating a new contract, the company threatened to drop the coverage. They sent us a letter stating that if we wanted to continue the insurance by self paying, it would be $20,000 a year. The contract was signed and we still have the insurance. No cost to us (though certainly part of the compensation package) and we have a $600 deductible, not including doctor's visits which are a $20 copay and not including prescriptions which are a maximum of $25. We also have a mail order pharmacy benefit for maintenance medications which cost $16 for a three month supply.

  So, stay out of the hospital and don't need surgery and we have it really good (we don't even have to pay the deductible, just the copays)......until my husband loses his job or the insurance is renegotiated in a new contract.

  By contrast, my brother has to pay in to his insurance at his job and he has a $3000 deductible...and they're getting ready to have a baby. So, there goes $3000.

  This makes no kind of sense in a developed country.

  In other ridiculousness, my husband hurt his back at work and had to have back surgery. It was covered under Workmen's Compensation, but they still sent the bills to us - $100,000 worth.

  So, if you want to hurt yourself, try to do it at work.

  Also, emergency departments , by law, have to treat everyone. That's why it takes 5 hours to get seen in the Emergency Department, it's clogged with uninsured people with ear infections. But, passing a kidney stone? Sorry, here's a gurney in the hallway so you can lie down while waiting...
