  Your entire response comes down to "Yes, the Society does say that, but there are exceptions and I am one of them." Fine, you can exempt yourself from the Society's explicit instructions to not do what you do all the time, but in so doing you are following the path of Uzzah. He, too, felt that the explicit rules didn't actually apply to him in that particular instance, for if he didn't step in some damage would be done to Jehovah's reputation.

  Your God rejected such reasoning then. Nothing you said makes me think He approves of what you are doing now. And we both know how the Society would feel if they caught you here. None of your appeals to Hebrew Scripture types would avail you then.

  Good point, your conscience has been so seared you no longer recognize wrongdoing when you commit it.

  The fact is that the Scriptures condemn inviting apostates into ones home.

  Just as they condemn any bad association in your home. For instance, the Society has applied that principle to not bringing pornography into your home via the television or computer. You, on the other hand, invite apostates into your home all the time, via this site. Or do you feel it is OK to view pornography on your computer, but not if the actress actually shows up at your house?

  Typically, if a person says a greeting to one or invites them into their home, that means they are friends.

  And you typically greet apostates here, usually with rude greetings, but greetings nonetheless. As for inviting them into your home, I already said above how you do that.

  Certainly you wouldn't invite someone into your home as a guest so that you could expose them as frauds and rebuke them.

  That is precisely what you do when you invite the thoughts of apostates onto your computer screen in your home.

  So it is that I don't consider posting messages on a public forum to oppose and expose apostates the same as inviting them into my home.

  And if all you ever did was that, you might have a point. But you always go beyond posting your initial messages to respond to those who post, thereby engaging them in extended conversation. Since you are not even to "say a greeting" to such ones, your conversations with them are condemned by the scriptures and by the Society.

  I would never befriend or associate with any of you people.

  Yet you associate with us all the time. The only thing lacking is our physical presensce from your home, but our ideas are routinely invited in. May as well watch Jerry Falwell on your TV -- after all, he's not physcially in your living room, so it hardly counts according to you.

  But, because apostates insist on setting your baited traps this way in order to ensnare some unsuspecting brother or sister of mine, it is my conscience and faith that moves me to respond. / You Know

  How much do members of the governing body make?

  just a simple question although i would also like to know if they have any sort of salary, or if there truly is evidence that they do make personal use of the voluntary contributions from the flock.

  please understand that i am skeptical and i would like anything that can be baked up.

  They get the same as any other Bethelite, somewhere around $100 per month for living expenses.

  That said, they are treated well. By seniority, they get first dibs on the best rooms at Bethel. They, no doubt, get money handed to them by brothers all the time. When they travel, brothers stumble all over themselves to treat them to airline tickets, meals, hotels, etc.

  They do fine. However, I've never heard of them officially getting any more money than anyone else, or committing any direct kind of financial fraud. Money doesn't seem to be their thing; power is.

  loved brian aldiss' "super-toys last all summer.".

  when the movie "2001: a space odyssey" premiered, i sneaked into a theater all by myself, and was blown away.

  Must the GB consist of anointed ones?

  with regard to another thread ("a report you may be interested in") and the thought that the society may be looking to eliminate the obligation for members of the governing body to be of the anointed class (wow, now there's a fred franz-style sentence...lol), here are some quotes that touch on this issue.

  Although the exact nature of the control mechanism may not be obvious, I can't see how the governing body would hand over any of the real direction of the WTBTS corporations.

  Correct, they did not hand it over -- it was forced from them. Some of the GB are not at all happy about what happened either.

  And yes, articles could come out that the GB don't want. After all, the GB is no longer in legal charge, and they no longer control the magazines. All it takes is for a disagreement to arise, and the GB can be cut out of the picture the same way Rutherford cut out the directors way back when. Irony, to say the least.

  well, simon, you now have the honor of hosting a platform for the true apostates to spew their anti-god venom.. this kind of thing is sadly typical of those who leave the wts.

  WTS Deception on Alternative Military Service

  until 1996 the watchtower society's official policy was that a young jw man who volunteered for alternative military service, rather than being imprisoned or letting a court sentence him to some kind of alternative civilian service, had violated christian neutrality and therefore was either to be disfellowshipped or declared to have voluntarily disassociated himself from the jw organization.

  beginning in 1978, the governing body voted on changing this policy a number of times, and generally had a simple majority who voted for change, but because the gb had a policy that all changes needed a 2/3 majority, and that was never reached until 1996, the policy remained.. in 1996, it appears that jehovah changed his mind, and so via divine direction instructed the governing body to change its policy.

  One question, does the Society ever go back and apologize to those who suffered from its past mistakes?

  No. Instead it implies they were idiots for even thinking that way since, after all, the Bible says nothing on the subject!

  Does it go back and re-instate those who were disassociated but should NOT have been?

  Of course not, for loyalty is more important than truth, and those who got it right at the wrong time were running ahead...

  Don't feel bad. I was fooled at first myself. They did a very bad job of getting the idea across, for it can easily be misinterpreted. But watch it a second time (as I intend to do), and notice how they do put the idea across.

  They said if that 2001 could be understood, then the movie had failed.

  Since I was a child, I have heard this. And yet 2001 has always seemed to me very obvious in every detail. I must be misunderstanding something.
