  it is quite remarkable how people who've done nothing to really further the cause of peace seem to win the nobel peace prize.

  the most glowing insult to the integrity of what this prize should stand for, was best demonstrated with its awarding to yasser arafat, the father of modern day terrorism.. .

  although i've never heard of one instant where arafat purposefully placed his life or well being on the line in face to face combat, he has literally sent thousands to their horrible deaths.

  you forgot i also defended hussein and the taliban! and if someone would claim that bush personally raped and murdered innocent people than i would dare to defend him as well. its a matter of sticking to facts instead of making stuff up. thats all.

  there was no need for russians to keep up the arms race. what was the threat? once you have the capability to eliminate the top 1000 cities of the enemy there is no need for further weapons.

  what did you figure out? that i dislike most of US politics and many US viewpoints? not exactly a secret!

  at least the way the system was managed in the soviet union and the other communist countries failed. with the mindset of contempory humans (where consumption and possession is the primary purpose of life) it seems likely that communism cannot work at all. but it is not entirely impossible to create a society where it would work. it did so at several occations in the distant past.

  of course it was the stupidity of the communistic leadership that ruined the soviet union. had they not senselessly joined the arms race would their economy not have collapsed. if i remember it correctly the soviets spent 60% of their budget on defense. IDIOTS!

  reagan did what is best for the US industry and strategic interests - very understandable - but not something he deserves any humanitarian award for.

  can someone explain to me why the soviets were so stupid to join the arms race? for crying out loud one would assume that the first 1000 nukes would have been enough...why build another 9000 thereby ruining your economy.

  not reagan but the stupidity and incompetence of these people brought the soviet union to a fall.

  No two men in the 20th century did more to save the world from tyranny than Winston Churchill and Ronald Reagan. To speak of one in this context is to speak of both. Churchill stood like the Rock Of Gibralter against the tide of Nazism and the voices of European capitulation. Ronald Reagan single-handedly brought down the Berlin Wall and Soviet Communism in-spite of the howls from world appeasers, cowards and threats from Russia.

  i was intrigued by another posters post about how the crusades were in response to the muslims invading the western world... so i had to do my own research to see if this was actually true.. as it turns out, the muslims have a habit of trying to take over the world.

  one can also look at the individual type of items.

  in germany the increase in gas prizes made the largest contribution to the about 1.5% inflation rate of the last couple of years.
