princess,

any thoughts on mr. taylor?s claims?.
u.s. demands greater oil output, lower prices.
"finance ministers from the united states and other major industrialized countries, hoping to affect the outcome of a battle within the organization for the petroleum exporting countries, formally demanded yesterday that oil-exporting nations raise production and lower prices to a level 'that is consistent with lasting economic prosperity,'" the new york times reports.

jim,
you seem to be a little dense (too much diesel fumes perhaps?). i said several times that i am for biodiesel. but even according to your numbers at best 7% of the required gas for vehicles could be supplied by biodiesel. so if everyone switches to SUVs the 7% are indeed a drop in the bucket.
i recommend you look at the OPEC report about growing oil consumption. (but of course you consider OPEC a less trustworthy source of information than your veggy car site).
also, that you refuse to acknowledge that europe is working way more fuel efficient than the US is just silly.
regarding your question...i and my family are driving a mitsubishi galant (90 horsepower diesel engine with about 7 liter per 100 km consumption). in comparison SUVs on average use something like 11 liters for 100 km.
One thing that you may not realize - here in Texas - a walk to the 'corner' grocery store could be a distance of 3 to 5 miles (5 to 8 km for those in metric countries). Not an easy - or short walk, to be sure.
so what? you need a SUV to get there?
I won't bother with replying to any more of your web-quoted rhetoric.
LOL ...what rhethoric would that be? that the EU guidlines are more restrictive than the US guidlines? i apologize for posting something so outlandish and blasphemous!
utterly disgusting.

dubla,
you mean like with WMDs YES or NO ?
my "theory" is that US oil companies will get the drilling rights - and thus will make the profits.

grows,
thank you for that info! very intersting. hopefully this theory is correct. i will try to read up on that.
but even if we have 'endless' amounts of oil (a theory obviously not widly accepted at the moment and not verified) should we use as little as possible to prevent a possible collaps of the ecosystem.

jim,
so far i haven't heard from you how your grease fuel is gonna solve the energy problem....STILL waiting!
since you doubted my numbers did you bother to verify the OPEC numbers?
i try to safe energy when possible. there are many ways of doing it...from turning off the electricity in the rooms you are not in to using the bicycle when possible or not turning the heat on when its not required.
by the way, buildings in europe are on a general basis very well insulated but apartment houses in the city have no solar cells or earth heat collectors etc. (unfortunately)
one more thing...european cars are more fuel efficient than US cars on average. this is a) because of the much higher gas prices and b) because here it is not viewed as cool if the car burns more than it needs.
http://ideas.wri.org/success_stories.cfm?ContentID=2176
Most Japanese and European auto manufacturers have spent the last decade developing cleaner cars, powered by gasoline-electric hybrids or clean-burning diesel. These auto companies have faced government pressure to reduce the vehicle emissions that cause global warming, as well as consumer demand for efficiency because of high fuel costs. The European Union has pressured the industry into committing to make passenger vehicles that get an average 39 miles per gallon by 2008 (by comparison, the U.S. commitment for cars is 27.5 mpg and 22.2 mpg for light trucks and SUVs).
the islamic religious extremists are destroying their people.
just as the christian right in the u.s. is more interested in it's own needs and wants than that of the country itself.
so too the islamic extremists want what they want regardless of the consequences to their country or their people.. ironically, osama the ultimate islamic extremist decided to attack the u.s. at just the moment when a christian right extremist was in power.. if christ's man gets elected maybe christ will decide to strike another country in the middle east and if osama survives maybe allah will decide to attack the u.s. again.
thichi,
If you refer to the moral issue of invasion
no i refer to the suppression by the curch in everyday life.
