The Tomorrow Trap
by ozziepost ina us columnist writes of encountering hundreds of people who, she says, "essentially live for the future, taking refuge in visions of a relaxed, rewarding personal and family life somewhere down the road".
she calls this "the tomorrow trap" - a kind of mirage that people chase while in reality they are burying themselves in work and other pursuits".

Beware of those adjectives!
by ozziepost indid you realise that joe ratherflawed spoke in a "fatherly tone"?
well, that's what the july 15 issue of the watchtower says.. in a section obviously intended to boost the reputation of jfr in the minds of modern-day witnesses, the skilful use of adjectives conjures up a picture of kind benevolence.. in just 4 paragraphs, expressions used are "largest convention", "listened intently", "fatherly tone", "children rose as one body", "burst of applause", "prolonged applause", "moving talk", "long line", "gift copy", "moved the audience to tears", "memorable assembly".. now try reading these four paragraphs without the adjectives.
they weren't essential to the story but they sure help to tug at the heartstrings.. it reminds me of the adulation of despots like mao tse tung and stalin who were written about during their regimes in similar language to this article.. note this quote in this section from an "eyewitness": "only a heart of stone would not be moved at the spectacle of youth [showing] complete trust and faith in their god, jehovah".

It was great!
by ozziepost inanother gathering of happy posters was held in sydney today at which our fellow traveller jang was able to meet some of the southern group of the posting fraternity.. partygoers were on their best behaviour to mark the presence of our honoured guest.. as is the custom ozzie and drloss ensured that the good red was flowing, and ozzie marked two gatherings without dropping a bottle!.
how good it was to hear of the deep concern and help for those traumatised by their experiences in the borg.
all the posters gathered are determined to 'be there' for those in need of help or rescue from the borg.. after a long afternoon's conversation and beautiful meal it was time for prisca to drive jan to the airport for her journey home.

by ozziepost inat a meeting today of the evangelical fellowship in the anglican communion (efac), president of the nsw branch, archbishop peter jensen reported that "never before had their been such a number and quality of people offering themselves to god's service".
australia, and especially new south wales, is seeing a revival in christian belief.. efac is a world-wide body founded in 1961 by john stott.
evangelicals are "those who believe in the sovereignty of god in creation, in revelation, and in salvation", jensen stated.. peter jensen went on to outline the four elements of evangelical christianity:.
